Thanks
[edit]Acalamari, thanks for your kind words here. I'm afraid I will not be running for ArbCom anytime soon. Some editors will even oppose an ArbCom candidate and cite no other reason than that the candidate once opposed someone that the editor nominated for adminship. I wouldn't really stand a chance in that sort of environment. --JayHenry (talk) 02:43, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

- I certainly respect your decision not to grant rollback in that case. As for Ruslik0's granting of rollback (which I also respect) when you had declined it, it's likely that Ruslik0 was reviewing Fastily's contributions, as you were, but he didn't see your declining of the request, and granted rollback before noticing. Naturally, you both disagreed over this. However, I believe it would have been better for you both to have waited for input from other admins (preferably more than one other admin): by doing that, you would have had more opinions, and much less disagreement. Hope that helps. Acalamari 21:52, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Help on creating pages
[edit]Hi Acalamari. Good morning. Can you please help me with User talk:Efe#New TK Article - Need Help. The editor once created TradeKey but was deleted under G11. I assisted him to write it first in a sandbox, and also provided him with pertinent links. However, he just said he is working for the company. This is person is nice but I am afraid of the COI and can't handle the matter this week coz I am attending a confab. Thank you. --Efe (talk) 03:30, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

- That's fine, good one for letting him know about COI, and here if he needs further help. Glad to hear your doing fine. Good luck at the conference. Acalamari 21:32, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Jordin Sparks
[edit]Hi
CarloHi keeps changing a free image to a non-free image at Jordin Sparks (9 times in the last seven days), and I suggest that he be blocked for his continuing disruptions, along with his IP (autoblock should take care of this). I've approached him thrice regarding this change, told him of the policies, asked him why he wants that specific image, explained that we can't use it if we have a free one, but he never answered and just keeps doing it, so I left two more templated warnings.
He again changed it last night and uploaded the image once again, so I don't see that he's going to stop doing that anytime soon, and think that a block is in order to hopefully prevent future disruptions.
I'm coming to you since I noticed that you twice reverted this change yourself, and are somewhat familiar with the case. I don't consider this a content dispute, and don't think that you are too involved to consider action on this, but if you do I'll take it somewhere else.
Cheers, Amalthea 06:31, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Amalthea, I would have responded to your query sooner, but I was offline. Anyway, no it is not a content dispute to revert copyright violations: CarloHi has continued to upload copyvio images despite the constant flow of warnings. However, as the user hasn't been online much since you posted your message, I'll give them one last chance (and it will be the last chance). As this point, a block would be punitive, but if they violate policy again, a block will be justified. Thanks. Acalamari 20:19, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, he only did it one more time, maybe he has given up by now. Based on the countless times he did it before I saw him going on like this for a while. Thanks, and Cheers, Amalthea 02:05, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
- Again and again, along with the image uploads, and he is blocked now for a short while. --Amalthea 03:47, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

My Issue, Your Problem
[edit]Since you obviously didn't like my compilation picture on the Charlotte, NC page then how about you create one of your own before you go restoring images. For example, major cities like New York and Los Angelos have picture compliations as their default picture, so I take it that you'r making one as I type. If I don't see another one, a better one, Im going to restore the old one.
Also, I'm going to be adding on to the Charlotte, NC page. I'll be adding catagories and information similar to the cityscape category on Atlatna's page. It will include information on architecture and urban development (because as you know theres a ton around here). Also, I'll be heavily expanding the culture section (which everyone seems to think Charlotte has none). I'll be adding many pictures so you may want to be ready with the "undo" button.
Try to be of some use and don't go around the place undo-ing what people do. Have a not so pleasent day :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Daritto7117 (talk • contribs) 07:29, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- The reason I restored the current image is because it is a free image and not one that is fair-use. The image you added appeared to have no copyright status, so I had to restore the previous free image: it had nothing to do with "liking" or "not liking" your image, I assure you. With File:CharlotteCompository.jpg, the image you uploaded, are the images on that ones you took yourself, or were they pictures on websites that you compiled together? If you took the images yourself, then that's fine, and the image will greatly improve the article, but images found on other websites compiled like that becomes a copyright violation.
- As for "undoing" edits, the reason I do that is to remove things like copyvio images. You're more than welcome to contribute to any article, but remember that Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and copyright violating material, be it images or text, are removed. Thank you for your understanding. Acalamari 23:51, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Rollback question...
[edit]Hi - I was looking over some "sandboxing edits" at Daniel Radcliffe to make sure it had all been properly cleaned up, and found this rollback which seemed improper to me, subsequently fixed by another user. It was clearly just a simple error (lack of attention perhaps?), but on further investigation, unless I am interpreting the data incorrectly, it appears that perhaps we granted rollback to a very new user with less than a week on the project (10 days total now). Just wondering what happened to the "standards" for rollback granting, or if perhaps this user was a special case (eg: truly experienced user, just with a brand new username). Thanks for your attention, don't mean to cause trouble... --T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 02:19, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hello! There are no "official" standards for granting rollback...it all depends on the admin, and some admins are lenient with rollback granting, while others are more strict. With the user in question, I did note the newness of the account, but at the same time, I took into consideration the fact the user was correctly using Twinkle, and that rollback can easily be removed. As for the edit they made that you mentioned, it looks like a mistake, and since they used Huggle when making that revert, it looks like a common Huggle error, rather than a malicious use of rollback. If the user makes too many mistakes, then Huggle can be removed, and I will check back on the user to ensure that their overall use of rollback is positive. I hope this answers your question. Acalamari 03:04, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Rollback.
[edit]How do I get rollback? I work on the Danity Kane/Day26/Donnie Klang area. For some reason, a lot of people like to vandalize that area. I need something a bit stronger to deal with it. IHelpWhenICan (talk) 23:30, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hi there IHelpWhenICan, I have granted your account rollback in accordance with your request. However, remember that rollback should be used to revert vandalism/spam; and remember that misuse of the tool, either by reverting edits you simply disagree with, or by using the tool to revert-war with other editors, can lead to it being removed from your account, and some administrators may not even warn you before they remove it, should the tool be misused. For practice and further information, I invite you to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. If you think an edit isn't vandalism, but should be reverted, then don't use rollback to revert it. This all being said, you now have the tool enabled, and I wish you good luck. Best wishes. Acalamari 23:37, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for blocking this guy, have you noticed how much disruption this IP range is causing to the Lady GaGa talk page. :( — Realist2 00:05, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
- You're welcome. :) In fact, it was because of the recent disruption that I decided to go ahead and block the IP: it's clearly a sock, and warnings would be pointless. If I'm online when one of these IPs next vandalizes, I'll be blocking. Best wishes. Acalamari 00:09, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Acalamari, I don't know who to approach (and found you on the list) regarding this[3] sock puppet drama discussed on the ref desk talk page. Is it appropriate for you to help deal with this person, User:Anirban16chatterjee? Thanks, Julia Rossi (talk) 11:28, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

- I disagree. The user is not currently engaged in sock puppetry, and seems to be attempting to provide reasonable contributions to Wikipedia. I believe this issue has already been addressed sufficiently. Should his misbehavior recur, *then* we move forward with sanctions. – 74 21:08, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

It seems that Anirban16chatterjee has already been spoken to, and other than blocking him (which, in this instance, I happen to agree with 74.137.108.115 that a block doesn't seem necessary at this point, unless the disruption continues.), I don't see how I can add much more to that. Remember that my word in this discussion regarding the user doesn't count anymore that anyone else's. Thanks! Acalamari 23:25, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

I'll do my absolute best to not let any of you down with the incredible trust given me today. rootology (C)(T) 07:46, 1 February 2009 (UTC) |

Rollback
[edit]Acalamari, you granted me rollback privlages a while back. If I were to create a new account, is it possible you could grant it to that account instead? Thanks. (If you can, please reply on my talk page) --Tyler (talk) 00:10, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
- Yes I can. Is it an alternate account? Acalamari 00:19, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
- Actually never mind, I'm sorry to bother you. I was thinking of creating another account with my name not as my username, but then found I can just rename my account. Thanks though.--Tyler (talk) 04:09, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
- That's all right: WP:CHU is the place to go for renames. Acalamari 00:16, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

RfA thanks
[edit]Thank you for the trust you placed in me by supporting my RfA (which passed and, apparently, I am now an admin!). I will do my best to continue to act in a way that is consistent with the policies of wikipedia as well with our common desire to build and perfect this repository of human knowledge; and can only hope that you never feel that your trust was misplaced. Thanks again! --Regent's Park (Rose Garden) 00:03, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- You're welcome for the support. :) Acalamari 00:16, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Gerard Way has been protected since July. Do you think it might be okay to unprotect it now? AnyPerson (talk) 00:56, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- The log shows that it's a common vandal target, but I don't see a problem in lifting protection to see what happens. Bear in mind, however, that due to past vandalism, it may end up getting reprotected again. Thanks. Acalamari 01:00, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. Yeah, I expect it will be. AnyPerson (talk) 02:34, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
The Arbitration Committee has asked that voters do not make comments next to their votes, if you like you can place your comments in the "Comments and questions" section or simply remove them all togehter. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 01:42, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- I didn't leave any comments next to my vote: I am well aware of the rules, and as such, I (copied your idea :D) set up a vote reasoning page to link to next to my votes out of courtesy to the candidates, for I don't like supporting or opposing for no reason at all, and dislike putting down just a signature. As the voting page isn't really a comment, I don't see how it violates the rules, but nevertheless, I have shortened it. Acalamari 03:02, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- I guess my idea was not okay either, and I had to move my comments to another section. See here. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 03:57, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Meh, you're right, so much for that: I see an arbitrator removed my link and didn't even bother to move it or inform me. I'll re-add it to the appropriate section. Thanks, Tiptoety. Acalamari 16:48, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your looking out for me
[edit]Thanks for what you did. Here's the kicker: He's wrong. Had you not deleted it, it would've opened him up to a libel suit. Not that I would pursue such a thing over trivialities, but some editors would.
When people do things like this, it says far more about them than it does about the person they are attacking. Not only does it show what can most charitably be described as an amoral attitude, but it also demonstrates ignorance, lack of forethought, and general immaturity.
I'll never know if this was by a regular editor, at this point I don't want to know. I'd like to think most Wikipedians are more enlightened than that. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 01:49, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- PS: If you see excessive vandalism on my talk page, say, more than 1 or 2 such edits a day, feel free to semi-protect it for a couple of days. If you do, put a note on the bottom saying you did so with my blessing and that new registered users with email privileges can send me mail through Wikipedia. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 01:51, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- You're more than welcome for my revert: I only caught it by chance when glancing at recent changes, and I decided that it wasn't even worth warning a user for an edit like that and I blocked them immediately. Should you pages need semi-protecting, and I'm around to protect them, I shall do so in accordance with your request. Best wishes. Acalamari 03:04, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
I sent you one last night. Majorly talk 16:52, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hello! Don't worry, I saw it last night but didn't have time to respond. Answering that is what I was about to do next. :D Acalamari 16:56, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Requesting rollback privileges
[edit]- Would you be willing to add rollback privileges to my account? I've been reverting various vandalized pages lately, and it would seem to be a good way to speed up the process. TheFeds 18:01, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hello! I have granted your account rollback in accordance with your request. Please remember that rollback is for reverting vandalism/spam, and that misuse of the tool, either by revert-warring with other users, or simply reverting edits you disagree with, can lead to it being removed. For practice, you may wish to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. Good luck. Acalamari 18:13, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
