[edit]I assume you are aware that the above ip was reported along with User:Pdg223 by User:Thumperward aka Chis Cunningham, which resulted in these personal attacks? I have indef blocked Pdg223, and would request that you reconsider the tariff on 209.218.131.219 in light of what appears to be a continuing campaign of harrasment. Thanks. Vangteh Issue
[edit]Hi. Why did you say that the page with Vangteh is irrelevant (inappropriate) for Wiki since Vangteh is an ancient city of the [Zomi], also called as Chins, and also is still existing in the northwestern part of present Burma-Myanmar. You recently declined my request for the speedy deletion of this article, telling me to give the author more time. 14 hours have now passed, and the article still fails to assert the notability of the group. Time for Splitting
[edit]What is a good guide for how long after I propose a page be split into subpages to wait before splitting it? On some rarely eddited pages, no one will respond for several days, so there will never be a consensus. On other more trafficed pages, there may be a couple of responses the first day that indicate consensus, but then many more days later. Thanks. Mbisanz (talk) 23:09, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Notifications
[edit]Hi, I'm wondering if there is a good rule for when and how many people to notify when there is a discussion going on about a topic. Sometimes I'll be called in for an opinion on a page move on a page I edited once to correct a spelling error. Sometimes I'll notify a creator for an AfD, but other times if its just an IP or a new user, I won't bother. Is there like a good range "Editors who substantially contributed to the action in question" or is it all personal choice? Mbisanz 22:19, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- I keep running across these mega-lists of related topics List of Singapore-related topics and List of geography topics. They would seem to violate the WP:NOT Not a Directory and Not an indiscriminate collection of info. And they'd seem to work far better as scalable categories, but it seems many users want to keep them. Is there some major policy discussion I'm missing? Mbisanz (talk) 05:18, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- AC, thanks for the advice. Your right that trying to change a policy like that is far beyond any skill of persuasion I have. I guess I find some lists like List of endangered animal species and List of Singapore-related topics rather useless compared to a search box. Others like United States Congressional Delegations from New York and List of Medal of Honor recipients: Civil War A-L provide enough context that it makes sense as large lists. Recovery?
[edit]Greetings A.C!
Question: Once an article is deleted, is it possible to ever recover data from that article.
I ask because a fellow quizbowler asked this question of me on my Talk Page. I'm not sure why he asked, and I would guess the answer is no, but can you confirm my suspicion?
Feel free to answer on my Talk Page, or here. Many Thanks! LonelyBeacon (talk) 03:29, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- A.C,
- Many thanks for the information you gave. I'm not sure of you noticed on my page, but the request being made is for the recvery of the article Charlie Steinhice. I am in no way endorsing or requesting its restoration to Wikipedia. It doesn't belong here. There is a new Wiki site where it very much does belong, and the person making the request would like that article to serve as a basis for a new article over there.
- Could you do this, or is it more proper to go through deletion review (I really wasn't sure deletion review was proper because I'm not really contesting the deletion of the article ... I just want the info in the article)
- Again, any help would be apprecaited greatly! LonelyBeacon (talk) 14:55, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- I am deeply appreciative for the help. I have already taken your advice. I've been trying to get my e-mail authenticated for the better part of the last 24 hours. I have my e-mail address, I had them e-mail me a confirmation, yet I never received the email to authenticate. I tried three times, but received nothing. Again, I am grateful for the help! [edit]Please stop making uninformed reverts to this article. A vandal in Poland with a rotating IP address constantly adds gross POV to the article. Thank you. Any assistance you could render would be greatly appreciated. Happy holidays! Jon Jonasson (talk) 01:50, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
I ran across this article, that had once survived an AfD. However, it seems to be an almost certain violation of either NOR or CopyVio. At the very least its a random collection of information. Before I re-put it up for AfD, I wanted a second opinion on it. Watching here. Thanks. Mbisanz (talk) 05:16, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
That article definitely needs more referencing. However, I don't believe it should be put up for AFD right now. It is very informative and is on a notable topic. I would recommend trying to find a Portuguese-speaking person to look at it and find their opinion. Perhaps look for a WikiProject on Portugal, Brazil or languages, and find some people who have contributed lately? I would help with that, but I probably can't be on Wikipedia much for a couple days. New Pages Proposal
[edit]I'm working on a proposal for the Special:Newpages and would enjoy any changes or comments you have about it at User:Mbisanz/Filter Proposal. I know your busy and I have tons of free time over my winter break, so no rush in responding. Mbisanz (talk) 08:15, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, you identified a technical error in the Newpages html. When you click the "Hide bots" link, it hides the bots, but if you try to view any length other than the 50 most recent new pages, it resets it to "Hide bots", and shows the bot edits. But, if you click "Hide bots" again, it resets it to the defult length of 50 most recent. The work around I've discovered it to click the number of pages you want to view, say 500, and then append this text to the end of the url "&hidebots=1". Basically your turn this link: http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Special:Newpages&namespace=0&hideliu=&hidepatrolled=&limit=500&offset=0 into this link: http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Special:Newpages&namespace=0&hideliu=&hidepatrolled=&limit=500&offset=0&hidebots=1
- Confusing enough for your? Maybe I should add that as part of my proposal. Mbisanz (talk) 23:16, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Other Proposal
[edit]I've noticed issues with fair use images since I've become active in the project. I've worked up some proposals here that might address them User:Mbisanz/ImageSystemProposal, but I don't know how to code such things. [edit]You made some typo corrections. Good catch. But you also interpolated an interpretation into a passage you may not have realized was quoted material. In his testimony Abdul Razzak told the officers that he was illiterate, and couldn't be sure of dates. He said he helped rescue Ismail Khan about two years before the Taliban fell.
Sure enough Ismail Khan's article says he escaped from the Taliban in 1999.
Abdul Razzak said he was subjected to involuntary forced labor every year for the five years between when the Taliban took power and his escape with Ismail Khan. That would mean that he first fell under Taliban jurisdiction in 1994 or 1995 -- if he got his dates right.

AfD nomination of Prussian Blue (duo)
[edit]An editor has nominated Prussian Blue (duo), an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Prussian Blue (duo) (2nd nomination) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 02:00, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Hi, Sorry to bother you. You may remember me asking for your help to protect the article Cemal Gursel against vandals in the past. For over a month there has been a systematic attack chain to the legitimate photos with proper copyright content and fair use explanations by a gang of three users/admins Ricky81682 , Rettetast and Nv8200p . Now not only most of the pertinent and proper image files have been vandalized systematically by those three parasites, The Ricky81682 whose expertise has absolutely nothing to do with this type of content and political / biographical authorship has started vandalizing content by deleting important substance matter. Can you help protect this article and also help get fair administrative vigilance against such destructive arbitrary interventions? Jews of Byzantium
[edit]I haven't read the entire article, but it seems like you did a great job. Although I mainly contribute about modern history and politics, I have done some contributions to our articles on Byzantine emperors, and am very interested in that period of history, so let me know if you need any help with anything. The one change I made was to add categories. In order for your article to get read a lot, it is important for it to have categories, as well as to be linked in other articles. The categories I added were "Religion in the Byzantine Empire" and "Judaism." Finding other places to fit this subject in other articles will be more challenging. Academic Challenger (talk) 04:32, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help, and for the compliment. I do have a question for you: how can I redirect other names to this article? Saepe Fidelis (talk) 04:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
It's a bit hard to explain. If you tell me what titles you want redirects for, I can make the redirects, and hopefully you can see from that how it's done. It took me a long time to get too, but basically you type in the word #Redirect, and the link it to the article you want to redirect to. Academic Challenger (talk) 04:37, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Could you redirect "Byzantine Jewry" to the article? I'll try to imitate that for other titles next time I'm on wikipedia (although right now I gtg). Saepe Fidelis (talk) 04:39, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Done. I also added a link to the article on the Byzantine Empire page, in the religion section. I hadn't looked at it before, but it seemed to say previously that Christianity was the only religion in the empire, which is a distortion in my opinion. Academic Challenger (talk) 04:44, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your continued help.
- To get the word out on the article, do you think it would be a good idea to try to get it on the "Did you know?" on the main page? How do we do that? Saepe Fidelis (talk) 15:18, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Go to WP:DYK. I've not been active in this area, but it seems fairly simple. Go to section 1.2, and it should explain. Academic Challenger (talk) 19:43, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Done and done. Thanks. Saepe Fidelis (talk) 16:29, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit]May I suggest that Jacques Lusseyran (with a "c") is by far the more common spelling and usage. His published books list this spelling as his name, including his books published in French. Anyway, he's predictible as all get-out, so if I see him on the new user log, I'll blow the whistle. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:39, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

I was curious if you could point out which of this user's edits were vandalism as it's defined here? Unless there's some sort of history/sockpuppet issues/something...it looks like a bad attempt to start a new article by cutting and pasting information from an existing one. --Onorem♠Dil 18:03, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe the person who originally warned them picked up on some minor vandal changes in the cut/paste job that made them go straight to vandal4. If so, I didn't see them. Unless that's the case, I don't see any way that this deserved a block. (and since when is 55 hours to start considered a short block?) One friendly note on cut/paste moves, and one warning about not removing speedy tags would have seemed more appropriate. --Onorem♠Dil 18:27, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Could you help solve an edit war problem on the article "Fascism" by semi-protecting it?
[edit]Hi, I am just asking any random administrator to help stop an edit war on the article Fascism being caused by am anonymous user. Referenced material posted by me and others on the article have been deleted on a false claim by the anonymous that it is original research. First the user posted an NPOV template and the original research template. Though the OR claim was false, NPOV was acceptable to raise an issue of. But then according to the edit log, two minutes later the editor unilaterally decided to remove the entire section which he questioned from the article completely. This person appears to have removed the material simply because they disagreed with it, and I see the action by the anonymous user as malicious to the efforts made by me and to another user who add material to the article. I think the article should have semi-protection for a period of time to prevent such malicious behaviour from continuing. If this can't be done, I can give you the anoymous user name so that you can give a warning to the editor not to behave maliciously. The user name is User:69.110.223.66, which you can access to talk at User_talk:69.110.223.66. Thank you for reading this.--R-41 (talk) 02:14, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

72.140.46.227
[edit]I am unsure as to why NuclearWarfare reported 72.140.46.227 to AIV. As new "market" templates (please see WT:TVS for the full discussion on this) were being made to comply with the OTRS ticket, the anon user was reverting changes by Cydebot so we wouldn't have to go to each page and readd the templates. This wasn't vandalism, if anything it was helpful.
Now, NuclearWarfare has reverted all those changes without contacting the anon user or WP:TVS and we have to revert them. I have asked NuclearWarfare his reasoning, but am waiting (at his request) for that reason.
I ask that the anon user be unblocked as his edits were not vandalism. Thank You...NeutralHomer • Talk 03:44, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thank You :) I appericate that. It appears that NuclearWarfare wasn't aware (I don't think) of the rebuilding of the "market" templates (can't call them "markets" anymore...no real name for them) so we are working that out :) Thanks again for unblocking the anon user, I appericate it. Take Care...NeutralHomer • Talk 03:56, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Incorrect summary on article deletion for Nasser Fahd Al Dosri
[edit]Hello! I want to state that you made an incorrect statement in your deletion summary from a few minutes ago:
"02:25, 29 September 2008 Academic Challenger (Talk | contribs) deleted "ناصر فهد الدوسري" (content was: '#REDIRECT Nasser Fahd Al Dosri' and the only contributor was Ecoleetage)"
For the record, I contributed nothing to the article -- I only moved the article from an Arabic title to an English title and kept putting the Speedy Delete tag back on the article after its creator, User:NasSser, kept removing the tag. NasSser's talk page clearly shows he received three warnings from me for removing Speedy Delete tags from the article he created. I know you cannot fix summaries once they are entered, which is why I am stating the correct history of the article here. Thank you. Ecoleetage (talk) 02:32, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for acknowledging the error. If there is any way of restoring and re-deleting the article manually so the article's author is correctly identified, I would appreciate it. I thought it would look peculiar if I was being fingered for something I obviously did not create (since I don't speak Arabic). Thanks. Ecoleetage (talk) 02:38, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Block of 195.131.172.123
[edit]Hi, Academic Challenger. I was looking over the edits of 195.131.172.123 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) when you blocked him. I can read a little Russian, and so I could tell that the pages to which the IP was linking seemed relevant and informative about the Russian and Polish cars in question. Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links)#Non-English-language sites gives pretty restricted cases in which linking to sites not in English is appropriate. I don't know enough about these Russian and Polish cars to know whether the information being linked there is available on any English-language websites, but it seems at least possible that these links were OK. (If they are, they should be tagged with {{Ru icon}}, but that's a minor issue.)
I think it would have been better for someone to try to engage this editor in discussion, to explain the policy on non-English links in more specific terms than the templates, which are a bit generic. Would you be willing to reconsider the block? —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 07:21, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- I also know nothing about Russian and Polish cars — I've just got enough command of Russian to see that the links were relevant to the subject. I'll be happy to talk to the user. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 07:33, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Blocks without sufficient warnings
[edit]Hi. I am just wondering why did you block the IP although it wasn't warned sufficiently? The talk page is even blank. I'm a newbie admin so an explanation/guide would be great. Thanks. --Efe (talk) 06:18, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- I have noticed those IPs, too, and have blocked at least one of them. I am just worried about Wikipedia:Blocking_policy#Education_and_warnings that's why I have done this, and worried about that 1 week block. Anyway, I have notified the IP for formality. Thanks for the immediate response. --Efe (talk) 06:35, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
You may want to make that 24 hour block longer, the IP is a repeat offender - see their block log. Inferno, Lord of Penguins 01:40, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi, can you review that please? It looks like you shortened the block I gave. Was that your intention? --John (talk) 01:40, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- No, it was not my intension to shorten your block. I did not see your block, as it was about a minute before mine and I forgot to look as I was taking care of something else. Also, apparently there is a new feature in which a new block automatically overrides the old block. I have re-set the block for your 1 week time period, and will be more careful in the future. Thanks. Academic Challenger (talk) 01:46, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I thought it must be something glitchy like that. I wasn't aware of that new feature myself and will keep an eye out for it. Thanks and good work, --John (talk) 02:54, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Help Please
[edit]Hey I could use a little help on two things. Just to let you know ahead of time, I spent over 2-3 hours working on this myself so I wouldn't have to ask.
1).My sig:
- 1.1). For some reason next to "SawBucks" there is a blue link arrow. I do have this going to Lostpedia, but I also have the "Talk" and "Theories" links go there as well and they do not have this problem.
- 1.2). There is a gap in space between "Talk" and "Contribs" that I can't seem to shake. I have tried go threw and delete space's in the code but nothing I have done has seemed to help it at all, which is wierd because it doesn't happen with the last two.
2). I can't figure out how to redirect my User and Talk page to my Lostpedia pages. I can do it to another page inside wikipedia, but I can't for the life of me find out how to make it go to an outside site.
If you could please send me a talk to the link that "Talk" in my sig goes to I would really appreciate it because I may not be able to get back to this page so easily. My sig right now goes to LP so just in case you need any of my pages, my Wikipedia User Page can be found HERE, my Wikipedia Sig Page can be found HERE and my Wikipedia Talk Page can be found HERE just to make it easier on you. I understand you may be very busy or not even be able to help, however anything you could help with would be perfect (even if you need to refer me to someone else).-- SawBucks Talk Tom Clancy Lostpedia 11:24, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah that makes sense, clicking on an "false" link that has spyware/malware could be a pretty big problem. As for my sig I got it taken care of for the most part but still needs some work I can take care off (nothing that just doesn't make sense at all). Sorry to bug ya and Thanks.-- SawBucks Talk Tom Clancy Lostpedia 02:21, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Pyrena
[edit]Ok, I understand that you have gained many awards from Wikipedia, but why would you choose to delete the article "Celtic town Pyrena" ? Now obvisiously I didn't write the article, but if there was something wrong about it you should have corrected it; cause now it is just that much harder to find out anymore information about the place the article was referring to. Aleman
[edit]Hello Academic Challenger. I remember you from editing Nicaragua related articles. I have been trying to find someone who might help me in an editing gridlock. If you see the history on Arnoldo Aleman you will notice that I have been going back and forth with another user. I dont think this person will be open to dialogue with me (prior experience) but I do believe that his edits are a bit biased. I have opened a thread at the talk page (most recent thread there) to no avail. I believe that my edit abides to WP:BLP without failing to mention the controversy that followed Aleman's release. Can you please take a look? Thanks a lot! Brusegadi (talk) 09:37, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
I Brought You My Bullets
[edit]You deleted the following page:I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love. It is actually the name of a My Chemical Romance album, though it is more commonly given a comma after the word "Bullets." I propose that it be restored as a redirect to the common spelling instead of deleted, since it is completely plausible and probable to accidentally use this less uncommon titling, though it being used as a blatant, ridiculous advertisement is indeed unacceptable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by American kohaku (talk • contribs) 19:14, 3 February 2009 (UTC) EDIT: Sorry. Sockpuppet cases
[edit]Thanks for your review of the ARV case i submitted; could you let me know what standard practice should be in cases like this - in which there was a group of account under a sock puppetry case, in which that case was closed and archived, and after which a new account starts performing actions that should be grouped in the original case? I'll watch this page for changes - thanks for any pointers. Quaeler (talk) 06:36, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
- (I don't know if you're watching my page - and frankly this is now silly because i was watching this page, but you responded on my page; I decided to respond on my page too trying to keep some semblance of a thread, and you've not since responded there... at any rate, i've responded to your response on my talk page with a request for clarification. If we have conversations in the future, i think it would be best if the thread would be continued in one location. Thanks again. Quaeler (talk) 07:29, 4 February 2009 (UTC))
User:Camboy8 repeatedly vandalizes this page but it appears you blocked the editor who keeps reverting his destructive edits instead of him. He keeps adding a filmography table which is unnecessary because all the films already are listed within the article. Why should this information be given twice? Also, it is customary to refer to the article's subject by his or her last name and he keeps changing it to Nathan with the excuse "he's only 11". If an editor is trying to keep an article within Wikipedia guidelines why are you blocking him instead of the guilty party? 67.79.157.50 (talk) 15:03, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Please look at User talk:Camboy8. Three different people warned him about his edits so why did you block one of the people trying to protect the article instead of Camboy8? Did you research the situation first? 67.79.157.50 (talk) 15:08, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hello! I am a regular contributor to film articles and film project discussions, and I'm not sure why you appear to have sided with Camboy8. Rather than reiterate what 67.79.157.50 said above in his first post, allow me to simply say his or her statements are accurate. Rather than familiarize himself with film project guidelines, as I suggested a few days ago, Camboy8 seems to be intent on ignoring them. What I found odd was that this article is basically the only one to which he has contributed. He is not editing articles on a regular basis; his only motive in coming to Wikipedia is to monitor this particular article. I asked him why, and he responded, "To answer your personal question on why this is the only article I edit, I am not a very involved editor, but Nathan Gamble is my favorite actor, So when someone is taking out what takes me a long time to edit, It bothers me. So please just leave the table in the article it's not hurting anyone. So since it is the only article I edit, please leave my edits alone." [7]
- Clearly this is a very young person. I responded to him at User talk:Camboy8 in what I hope you will agree was a sensitive and compassionate manner. While I applaud and encourage his desire to write for Wikipedia, I also think it's important for him to understand the whys and wherefores before doing so.
- With all due respect, I believe your decision to honor his request to block 209.247.22.164 was hasty, given 209.247.22.164's edits were in keeping with film article guidelines, and Camboy8's are not. Your quick response seems to have emboldened him to believe he is right to continue to revert the article to the way he wants it. It would be unfortunate if he started editing other articles in a similar fashion. Thank you. LiteraryMaven (talk) 19:33, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hello again! Thank you for your response. I appreciate your interceding in this matter. Re: filmographies, they are common in articles about actors, directors, screenwriters, and the like who have so many credits it's impossible to mention them all within the article, thus the necessity of a list. In the case of a child actor with a handful of credits, it's easy to list all of them within the text, making a filmography table redundant. Again, many thanks for your assistance! LiteraryMaven (talk) 18:47, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
