Welcome to the 2020 WikiCup!
Happy New Year, Happy New Decade and Happy New WikiCup! The competition has begun and all article creators, expanders and improvers are welcome to take part. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page. We are relaxing the rule that only content on which you have completed significant work during 2020 will count; now to be eligible for points in the competition, you must have completed significant work on the content at some time! Any questions on the rules or on anything else connected to the Cup should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. Good luck! - Abishe, this has just been marked for closure, which could happen at any time. If you are still interested in expanding this article so it becomes eligible for DYK and will be able to do so very soon, you can post this at the nomination and perhaps head off an immediate closure. In that case, however, you will need to give the article expansion your immediate attention. I didn't want the nomination to close without giving you a final chance. Rollback granted
Hi Abishe. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war.
- If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
- Use common sense.
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! ~ Amory (u • t • c) 20:20, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

- I saw your comment there. To answer your question. I believe, LaserLegs is claiming that you are commenting on ITN Ongoing removal without a proper understanding of the guidelines at WP:ITN (he is assuming that you have not even read the guidelines). He is making this claim based on your comment where you stated that this event is making headlines, but for ITN ongoing, the requirement is that the article has to be updated, (nevermind if the headlines are being made or not). As I said in my ITNC comment and as others have also pointed out, it is wrong to claim that CAA protest is not getting updated. The page history shows that the article is getting significant updates on a daily basis. So LaserLegs seems to have made an error in assessing the updates and comparing it with the guidelines. I hope it helps you to understand the situation. --DBigXrayᗙ 14:38, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
@DBigXray: First of all I wish you Happy Thai Pongal. Yeah, I understand the issue but I am pondering why LaserLegs is making claims about the CAA protests without checking the article history. Thanks for inviting me for the discussion. Regards. Abishe (talk) 06:14, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020
Hello Abishe,
- Source Guide Discussion
The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.
- Redirects
New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.
- Discussions and Resources
- There is an ongoing discussion around changing notifications for new editors who attempt to write articles.
- A recent discussion of whether Michelin starred restraunts are notable was archived without closure.
- A resource page with links pertinent for reviewers was created this month.
- A proposal to increase the scope of G5 was withdrawn.
- Refresher
Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Your revert of Parasite
Hi,
I edited the Parasite article (without being logged in, https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Parasite_(2019_film)&diff=prev&oldid=942488883 ), but you reverted the edit for reasons I don't understand.
Can you clarify why you thought that was necessary?
Yoe (talk) 06:54, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
@Yoe: I didn't intentionally reverted your edit but I did it because it was not necessary to modify the sentences in the plot summary of the film. I of course do not know anything about the storyline of the film and I am sorry if your edit was correct. If you want to edit Parasite (2019 film) it is better to edit it with your username by logging in so that it will be easy for us when doing reviewing pending changes. Thank you. WikiCup 2020 March newsletter
And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2, with 57 contestants qualifying. We have abolished the groups this year, so to qualify for Round 3 you will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two contestants.
Our top scorers in Round 1 were:
- Epicgenius, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with a featured article, five good articles and an assortment of other submissions, specialising on buildings and locations in New York, for a total of 895 points.
- Gog the Mild came next with 464 points, from a featured article, two good articles and a number of reviews, the main theme being naval warfare.
- Raymie was in third place with 419 points, garnered from one good article and an impressive 34 DYKs on radio and TV stations in the United States.
- Harrias came next at 414, with a featured article and three good articles, an English civil war battle specialist.
- CaptainEek was in fifth place with 405 points, mostly garnered from bringing Cactus wren to featured article status.
- The top ten contestants at the end of Round 1 all scored over 200 points; they also included L293D, Kingsif, Enwebb, Lee Vilenski and CAPTAIN MEDUSA. Seven of the top ten contestants in Round 1 are new to the WikiCup.
These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. In Round 1 there were four featured articles, one featured list and two featured pictures, as well as around two hundred DYKs and twenty-seven ITNs. Between them, contestants completed 127 good article reviews, nearly a hundred more than the 43 good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Contestants also claimed for 40 featured article / featured list reviews, and most even remembered to mention their WikiCup participation in their reviews (a requirement).
Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.
If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. There was an error in the WikiCup 2020 March newsletter; L293D should not have been included in the list of top ten scorers in Round 1 (they led the list last year), instead, Dunkleosteus77 should have been included, having garnered 334 points from five good articles on animals, living or extinct, and various reviews. The Destubathon
Hi Abishe
Thanks for your new article at Senga Macfie, always good to see new articles on notable women! Re the WP:The Great Britain and Ireland Destubathon though, the entry isn't going to count unfortunately for two reasons:
- It was a new article, not a stub. To be eligible for the destubathon, the article must have already existed at the beginning of March, but be a WP:Stub (i.e. prose size below around 1500 bytes) before you start working on it.
- To qualify for destubbing, the article must generally be raised to at least 1500 bytes of prose size. Senga Macfie is only 1177 bytes of prose at the moment. (Follow the instructions here if you want to install the script for measuring how big a particular page is).
Anyway, thanks for the new article all the same and let me know if you want to take part in the destubathon and need assistance locating suitable articles! All the best — Amakuru (talk) 17:26, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
- Amakuru Oh I made careless error regarding it and I feel sorry for not complying with the rules. However I am not having the intention to win prizes as I am mostly involved in editing articles related to coronavirus pandemic and new page reviewing. I will try my best to contribute to the Destubathon contest if possible. Thank you. Abishe (talk) 02:39, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Please undo your edit, and also, enquire better on my status.
- I'am not blocked wikipedia-wide, but on a single page.
- I contested the specific, single page block since the admin used his admin tools to settle the content dispute we were having (1 vs 1 vote), which is quite shocking by itself.
Please slow down and let wikipedia editors do their work. Yug (talk) 17:00, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Yug: I am extremely sorry for my error and I undone it. Abishe (talk) 17:26, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
- 3 acts story: inacurate labelling ; self-reverted and apologized for the mistake.
- Thank you, not much bad. (I've been admin too). Please consider slowing down if you are overworking. Yug (talk) 17:29, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi. :-) Are you sure Nisse Andersson played for the Sweden national team "from 1983 to 1987"? He would have been 42 to 46 which seems highly unlikely and I haven't found any references backing up that claim. I'll remove it for now. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 21:07, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on: Oh thanks for alerting me over the erroneous stat regarding his playing career. Nisse built up his career prominently as a coach rather than a player. I too checked for the sources to verify his playing career but I was not able to find any such source. I created this article three years ago. Abishe (talk) 06:12, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking. :-) I guess "former player" should probably be removed as well? Robby.is.on (talk) 07:00, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- Yes I removed certain phrases mentioning him as a former player. Abishe (talk) 07:08, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion contested: UNC Administration (1995–2001)
Hello Abishe. I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of UNC Administration (1995–2001), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not a test page: There is legible text on the page that matches the title of the article. Thank you. Passengerpigeon (talk) 12:34, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

The article Italica Grondona has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Fails BLP1E: only gained coverage for survival, claim as one of the oldest persons is not exceptional either.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 21:31, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Need Inputs
Sir, please help me improve the draft Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikanthan. Thank you for accepting he passes WP:NACTOR. Could you please check all the references, in local language in particular. They seem to covering the subject in detail. I would like to have your inputs, Thank you Adapongaiya (talk) 20:24, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
@Adapongaiya: Yes I can take a look at Draft:Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikanthan. You have to be mindful about Wikipedia policies and guidelines especially should be careful on meeting with WP:GNG. Abishe (talk) 18:45, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Greetings and an help for Coreca and his topics
Good morning from Coreca, Calabria, Southern Italy. I am writing to greet you and thank you for the help given to Stefania Orlando. In addition to this I wanted to ask you, always and in any case in return for the courtesy. Could you translate my town, its reefs, and its caves into Tamil and Sinhalese? just and no more than 10 minutes of your precious time, In exchange I will translate what you want into Italian and Sicilian my native languages. Sure your answer and to hear from you, thank you in advance. a fraternal greeting.--Luigi Salvatore Vadacchino (talk) 13:17, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
@Luigi Salvatore Vadacchino: Thanks for your message and pleasant to meet you but why do you give such offers and this is something new that no other editors have given me like this. Actually I am not much in touch with Sinhala wikipedia and Tamil Wikipedia in recent times. I can try to translate those articles if I can. Happy editing. Abishe (talk) 13:40, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
Saket Modi
Hi Abishe, I appreciate you taking out the time to review Saket Modi. I noticed that you have reverted the edits I made to the page and left no message. Could you please explain to me why these edits were declined and what I could do to rectify it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2402:3A80:1875:6A90:5D2D:43FD:38B5:347C (talk) 14:01, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
@2402:3A80:1875:6A90:5D2D:43FD:38B5:347C: Thanks for your message but I did revert your edit on Saket Modi as it was set as a redirect for Lucideus. Saket Modi fails WP:GNG and that's why the subject has been set as a redirect target. Abishe (talk) 16:55, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your swift response Abishe. But the topic in question has been discussed in various reputable publications including Forbes, The Economic Times...etc He was felicitated with many prestigious awards including Indian Ambassador of Cyber Security in Education by Government of India, Entrepreneur of the Year. I have read Wikipedia's Any biography. Can you please double check as I see it meets most of the criteria outlined there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2402:3A80:667:58F5:B13D:41E7:7A11:6450 (talk) 16:14, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
@2402:3A80:667:58F5:B13D:41E7:7A11:6450: I just undone my edit according to your suggestion. I made to this position based upon his notabiliy. Abishe (talk) 16:32, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
I'm sorry but this article has been subject to continual COI edits both by Saket Modi himself, his family/employees and also by his competitors; in addition they have been editing negatively against their competitors articles. They use socks, social engineering (see above), etc.. It has a long history of disruptive editing across many articles by a train of socks and IPs. The latest sock just got blocked within hours of the article re-creation! That is just the beginning. It is a huge can of worms that took up years of my life dealing with and Abishe if you restore the article that is your choice, but you should be prepared to follow through dealing with the COI, PROMO, SOCK etc.. -- GreenC 13:51, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
@GreenC: I completely apologise to my blunder over reverting the redirect Saket Modi to Lucideus. I understand that IP anonymous editors may have COI with the person and I take the blame and responsibility for my erroneous edit. I hope to have a look at these things. Thank you for notifying this. Abishe (talk) 15:15, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
Ok thank you for understanding. It is your choice as a neutral editor, but wanted to make sure you are aware of the situation which the above IP's message was not clear about the article history. -- GreenC 17:30, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
Hi Abishe/@GreenC: I agree with you that the page has been heavily edited in the past and therefore, it was pending changes protected by Wikipedia administrator to protect against persistent vandalism. Now that the page is protected and nothing can not be vandalized, why we instead of disapproving edits that do not comply with Wikipedia's policies want to remove the entire content. Saket is one of the most prominent entrepreneurs and meets requirements for a stand-alone article.103.203.231.178 (talk) 08:49, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
- As you probably know the article is a severe case of WP:COI and WP:PROMO that it became disruptive to the Wikipedia community. Meeting a sourcing requirement is not automatic acceptance. We can't spend hours of our day chasing after revolving IPs and endless socks dealing with disruptive behavior surrounding this article and a few others. Particularly related to the awards sections, WP:PROMO and WP:PEACOCK language. You have added promotional material with a sock then edit war for months. You are obviously involved with this topic, have a WP:COI - you shouldn't be editing the article at all. You should let the community of neutral uninvolved editors make the article and leave it alone. If you want to add something, follow the directions at WP:COI and propose it on the talk page. Furthermore stop trying to hack the system by using IPs and socks, register an account and stick with it - it's plainly obvious you are trying to hide. If you can demonstrate an ability to follow the rules, and edit with a respectable account that reveals your COI, then we can work with you. Also given that one of the accounts that recently edited the article is tied up with Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Swarup_Kumar_Solanki/Archive I wouldn't be surprised if you are an undisclosed paid editing entity. -- GreenC 14:49, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your response @GreenC: but i am not trying to hide my identity at all. In fact my IPs are visible to everyone here. I did not have an account, but I have created one today as you advised. In addition to this, I read Wikipedia's COI and would like to disclose here that i have a conflict of interest with the subject and have mentioned the same on my talk page as well following the guideline and as you suggested. I am a company employee and joined his company three months back. This task was assigned to me about two months ago and has since been working towards fixing this issue. You seem to be very well-versed in Wikipedia guidelines and i look forward to working with you to fix this article and bring the page back.SachinShetty00 (talk) 09:57, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
- @SachinShetty00: Wikipedia is not a place for promoting things. But I think you have learnt about how Wikipedia works and how fellow Wikipedians work. This is a voluntary service and not for payments. Any paid editing should be disclosed according to the Wikipedia policies and guidelines. You can learn how to edit Wikipedia first and if you really have COI with Saket Modi it is better that you can disclose it in your userpage. It is not wrong to edit the article that you are closely associated with but you have to be familiar with maintaining WP:NPOV and should avoid WP:PROMO. Abishe (talk) 12:00, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
I copied this discussion for historical purposes to Talk:Saket_Modi#Restore_article_/_COI and will follow up there. I think we need to restore the article for now until there is reason or consensus not to . -- GreenC 14:35, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
Thank you so much for all your help @GreenC:/Abishe. This has actually been a great learning experience. SachinShetty00 (talk) 16:13, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
