Category

[edit]

Hi, what purpose do you see this category serving? Are you aware that we do not categorise people by caste? - Sitush (talk) 13:33, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No! i don't know if i'm misleading sorry, i just thought to categorize similar names into one category this is the only reason why i created the category.Sorry if i'm violating the wiki standards Sitush - User:Abhinav Rao Dravid (talk) 1:42 PM, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

I am just concerned that it will end up being used to categorise people, which is something we do not do. If it is only going to contain the two articles that you've just put in it then there doesn't seem much point - they are linked to each other anyway. And that it exists means someone else might misuse it even though I am sure you will not now that you are aware of the consensus. If you want to dig through the long, complex issue of categorising people by caste then you might find User:Sitush/Common#Castecats has some suitable links to past discussions. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 13:47, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the warning Sitush from now on wards i'm not going to touch this caste based categories. Thanks for the suggestion.Abhinav Rao Dravid (talk) 14:03, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't be scared of trying. We have some info about that at WP:BOLD. As long as you're willing to accept that all of us sometimes make mistakes or, at least, more people disagree with us than agree, then there should not be a major problem. You come across as someone who is both prepared to have a go and also to listen, which frankly is quite unusual at caste-related articles! It's a good thing. - Sitush (talk) 14:30, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Sitush! Right now i'm working on Surnames, Titles, Clans of famous Indians.Do you have any suggestions. - Abhinav Rao Dravid (talk) 14:54, Thursday, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
Not beyond the usual - make sure you have sources etc. Also, if the person is still living then you should only associate them with a clan if your source shows them self-identifying as a member of it. Just bearing the same name, for example, is not considered good enough. There's a bit of explanation at User:Sitush/Common#Castelists - different situation but the same principle, which is basically WP:BLP. - Sitush (talk) 17:06, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Sitush, can you add a semi protection to List of Brahmin Gotras, lot of vandalism is going on on this page. - Abhinav Rao Dravid (talk) 8:52, Friday, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
I am not an administrator and so cannot protect articles. The formal venue for protection requests is WP:RFPP but that is a bit of a pain to use unless you Twinkle installed in your user preferences. Let's see what @SpacemanSpiff and Vanamonde93: think - they are admins. - Sitush (talk) 09:21, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Snippet views

[edit]

Please do not use "snippet views" from Google Books for citations. They are particularly notorious for producing misrepresentative statements in caste-related articles. If you cannot read the full source, you should not cite it. - Sitush (talk) 13:38, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Okay Sitush! from next time on wards i'll not use "snippet views" from Google Books for citations Abhinav Rao Dravid (talk) 13:45, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, thanks. I realise that all these rules and guidelines must be confusing. Stick with it and it will all make sense as you gain experience. - Sitush (talk) 13:48, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tip

[edit]

Every time you come back under another name I become more pissed off with Brahmins in general. You give them a bad name and after a while it is inevitable that your shenanigans reflect badly on them and make people suspicious of anyone editing Brahmin-related articles. So please go away and do not come back because we do not need liars here and the decent Brahmin contributors most certainly do not need you. - Sitush (talk) 10:43, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
