1. I believe that cyberbullying would be the most interesting topic to me. I have been aware of this issue for a long time, and think that it is becoming increasingly important because of the prevalence of social medial platforms and the media in our lives, in general. I also find it very relate-able because of the age group it is directed at- teens and high-school age kids, which is very close to my own age. 2. Online magazine would be my next choice for this project. I have seen online magazines in the past, especially on iPads and tablets, and find them very useful, fun, and environmentally friendly! I would love to expand on the Wikipedia page, because online magazines will become more prevalent, as we shift towards more of a tech-savvy society. 3. The most challenging, but interesting, topic to me would be discourse community. I still do not understand it, in full, so it would be interesting for me to explore further.

Ranking the 4 Topics!

[edit]

How would I rank these four topics...Cyberbullying, Discourse Communities, Internet Phenomena/Online Magazines, Remediation...? I would put them into this order for myself: Cyberbullying, Internet Phenomena/Online Magazines, Remediation, and finally, Discourse Communities. I choose this ranking because, first and foremost, I am very interested in the topic of cyberbullying. The topic hits very close to home, for me, because I had a friend who was violently bullied via MySpace, when I was in middle school. Since I was able to experience this horrifying incident, firsthand, I would like to further reflect on it, and do more research for the topic. I think contributing to the Wikipedia page would me an amazing outlet for this. My next choice is Internet Phenomena/Online Magazines because I am interested in the up-and-coming nature of these media forms. I have not touched online magazines, myself, so I would be interested to further explore this. In addition, there is a "list of internet phenomena on wikipedia, but not a specific page describing what they are. I think it would be very helpful to have this resource. My next pick would be remediation. When you Google this topic, there is not even a Wikipedia page that discusses the general meaning of the term. It would be very helpful to have more of a description about remediation, in general, before all of the specific topics. Finally, I put Discourse Communities as my last and final choice. I chose this topic as my last one because I am still unclear on what it is about. In my opinion, all communities tend to adopt the same general beliefs and ideals, so it would seem odd to specifically define this situation. Maybe what it is referring to is like a community that holds true to and practices one specific belief? Like a church community? Tomorrow, upon picking what topics we will be elaborating on for the Wikipedia page, I will choose my topics in this order.

4 Sources for Remediation

[edit]

http://kairos.technorhetoric.net/6.1/reviews/blakesley/remediator.html I like this resource as a first one as it is written by two influential individuals in the establishment of remediation in digital media. It comes from the textbook, Remediation, by Jay David Bolter and Richard Grusin. It explains the concept of digital remediation, and the influence of remediation on society. It also includes helpful links to various topics, such as, forces that mediate new media, refashion an identity, and should remediation be of interest to teachers of writing.

http://kairos.technorhetoric.net/6.2/reviews/newbold/newbold_main.htm This is another analysis of a novel written A Review of Writing Space: Computers, Hypertext, and the Remediation of Print. This discusses the various approaches to remediation, including, The Web as a Writing Space, The Breakout of the Visual, The Remediation of Print, The Materiality of Literacy. These would all be important sources in the approach to remediation of text in various mediums.

http://kairos.technorhetoric.net/6.2/coverweb/hypertext/jonesbowieaustin/JonesKairos1.html This article is titled, “From Linear Text to Hypertext”, and it discusses the new conventions and approaches to writing in the new media and how it contrasts with a traditional writing space. It discusses the effects of writing in the new media, as well as the pros and cons to doing so.

http://kairos.technorhetoric.net/20.1/coverweb/ellis-underwood/index.html I believe that this article is a prime example of what I would be looking for upon writing about the various mediums utilized for compositing a digital writing space. The author argues that, in order to experiment with and combine various mediums, one must overcome the fear of uncertainty, and boundaries of your comfort zone.
