For your very high quality maps and fantastic map making program--Astrokey44 09:50, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The program is working perfectly now!! (except that it saves files without an extension, but after I renamed them it was fine) This is amazing and going to make making and especially updating these types of maps so easy! Thanks! --Astrokey44 09:50, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great! I'm glad it's working so well. Please give me more feedback, or suggestions for features if you have them. Currently I'm trying to work out how to make the key generating part of the program more intuitive. Thanks for everything. --Aaaarg 15:41, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Template:GunnMap

[edit]

This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Gunnmap, User:Aaaarg, and Map recommendation

[edit]

Hello, since user:Aaaarg seems abscent from Wikipedia, can you introduce a little this interesting application (Gunnmap) :

  1. Where to download ? -> answer/the link http://gunn.co.nz/map/GunnMap.air is empty.
  2. Is it easy to use ? -> answer, need it special skills, software, Linux/Window ?
  3. are the sources free and available ? -> Link: http://gunn.co.nz/map/ AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just cry one hour when I discovered that I can't save the final product ; Available: I think Arthur was making this also to promote his website and father business. Don't care: I perfectly agree to support the business of people making a such amazing and generous job ! But I note that he will probably not share the code (for a such huge and hight quality work, I honestly can't request him to free his code). So, his current soft displaying to much parametres/possibilities, we (/I? O.o) will have to give him many feedback/request to get the option "Make gradiant map according to Wikipedia standard".

I finnally found myself more information than expected. The most important now seem to know : do you still have an GunnMap.air file ? Yug (talk) 08:03, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simply answer here, I will be back soon or late. Yug 08:37, 16 March 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.135.4.212 (talk)

Summer 2008

[edit]

Hi everyone, sorry for my absence.

You can get the offline version from http://gunn.co.nz/map/GunnMap.air.zip The offline version allows you to save the maps in PNG and SVG form. Note that currently the generated SVGs can only be read by a small number of apps. I should be able to fix this in a later version. Last time I checked Wikimedia was able to handle them okay, however I would still recommend PNGs.

The app requires Adobe AIR. There are Mac OS and Windows versions which can be download from http://get.adobe.com/air/ . There is also a Linux alpha available at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/air/ .

I'm currently planning another version with an improved interface and some new features, so feel free to give me suggestions or requests.

Great to heard this ! As you saw upper, I think your Gunnmap is can become a GREAT tool to unify the styles of maps on wikipedia. New map convention will -if we are lucky (an if I spend my nights on it)- be ready for Sept. 2008. Then we will have the conventions need to be integrated to your soft. To unify the maps style, I think your soft [website if possible] should :
  • keep a trace of the data the visitor input, allowing us [administrator] to redraw the map in a more suitable style
  • have default colours according to wikipedia convention (that will likely be grey#COCOCO ; and dark-blue to white for data).
  • Include a notice about naming convention.
  • reduce the features provided.
That can seems odd to you, but many features means many different maps styles. By example, I think the background (seas) should be by default with opacity=0%, or #ffffffff (white opacity=100%), or the recommended blue, white countries without data should only be #C0C0C0ff (or the recommended frey). This limitations are need to create a "wikimaps identity".
I can't say more right now since I just discovered 5 mins ago that you were still here. I can just notice you that your template is back ;) Yug (talk) 00:53, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Map projection suggestion for GunnMap

[edit]

Equirectangular_projection would be an excellent map projection to add as an option to this program, because such a map can be readily used as a texture to be put on a 3D sphere. Too bad all the nice maps generated by this program all over wikipedia are not in equirectangular projection and thus cannot be used as textures on spheres. Please consider adding this feature/option. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:15C0:66A3:2:0:0:0:116F (talk) 11:20, 10 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
