I object to the way my entry has been edited.
[edit]And it has not been done in a neutral tone. I point out the term "joke correspondent' to describe my Weekend Update segments as unnecessarily dismissive in tone and not accurate. I note that the entire tone of the article is snide and disrespectful, there is a typo in the title of the video "I Support (Suppot) Our Troops" and the link back to the DailyKos Diary itself does not go to the original diary where people can read it for themselves, but to a conservative hack website who comments on it. This is a bit outrageous. I am the author of the corrections and I am also the subject of the article. If any proof is needed that I'm A. Whitney Brown you can call me at whitney@myeverything.com and I will give you my phone number. I also made the earlier edits under the user name AWB, as I thought details would be interesting. If Wikipedia is intended be shorter and primarily just references to other links on the internet, fine. The earlier notes are in the history. Sincerely, A. - Due to the apparent conflict of interest, please do not edit your own article. If you have corrections or editing suggestions, please present them on the article's talk page, and an editor will be along to review them. Rklawton 16:36, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay, from now on I'll use the comment instead of starting a new topic. Sorry, I'm having a learning curve here. AWhitneyBrown 16:50, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- No worries. Most editors start off by bumping up against policies about which they are not familiar. We also have policies on biographies you should read up on. Wikipedia offers certain protections for articles on living people, and you may find them to your benefit. Don't hesitate to ask questions, don't be discouraged by grumpy editors (you wouldn't believe the stuff we have to deal with sometimes), and remember, every edit is permanently logged and (for the most part) available to the public. Cheers, Rklawton 16:58, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
I believe my entry is extremely neutral, especially compared to some others.
[edit]It is brief and contains only the minimal information and links. If there is any objection to it on some specific grounds, please point that out. But when there are people editing this page with a political agenda, I feel I have a right to correct my page to at least reflect a neutral point of view. It's a lot to ask people who are busy with more important things to worry about my little entry. I just don't like the tone. Compare it to other SNL cast members or writers and you will see what I mean. So I feel I have a right to defend myself, within the guidelines. BTW, I'm not particularly tech savvy and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to operate the wiki, so I may make mistakes in linking and things. I would prefer if a neutral person would look at my entry and see if it's okay. Respectfully, A. Whitney Brown AWhitneyBrown 16:49, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- In my experience, the more "political" the subject of a biography has become, the more their article attracts cranks of all types. Usually, editors who support your views counteract editors who oppose your views, but the state of your article on any given day might vary widely. Rklawton 17:01, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Thank you, but I don't want to spend my whole life editing this Wiki. I just want to correct my own entry and ensure that it remains neutral in tone, without any partisan sneering. Thank you for your assistance. Sincerely, A. Whitney Brown AWhitneyBrown 17:03, 31 July 2007 (UTC) One other thing, I deleted a reference to me being a musician because I never was a musician. I'm still not, sadly. AWhitneyBrown 17:06, 31 July 2007 (UTC) Also, the story about George Myer coming up with a joke that is much quoted on the internet is still true, and I put in because he and I are probably the only ones who knew about it. Anyway, I suppose you could get a reference by asking him, if he even remembers. He's a joke machine, George, and he may not even recall it.
Question
[edit]What, RKlawton, and you don't edit your own article? My tone is neutral and I strenuously object to the ideological tone of the corrections made earlier and the link to a hack conservative blog.— Preceding unsigned comment added by AWhitneyBrown (talk • contribs)
- Reply: I don't have my own article on Wikipedia. Jimbo Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, has an article here, but he doesn't edit it any more for the same reasons given you. Incidentally, I thought your edits were pretty good. I only added back a link to support the "controvery" claim. Rklawton 17:12, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm satisfied with the way things worked out, if they stay about the same, that's fine. It was worth learning how to access the wiki, especially since I use this project often on the topic of jazz musicians. I often browse the jazz bios for hours. I only want my own stub to be respectful and neutral. This is a great thing, the wiki. AWhitneyBrown 17:18, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Expand
[edit]We'd like to expand your article. Can you provide a photo you'd like to release into the public domain? Also, can you provide some published sources regarding your Emmy award (what show, sketch, etc) as well as the type(s) of comedy you perform? Folks who read your article the way it appears now just won't get much out of it other than that you are a comedian.
Cheers, Rklawton 16:01, 11 August 2007 (UTC) This is Whitney. I read your snide comments to the idiot Newstalk76 or whoever and they show plainly that you, Rklawton, are an ass with an agenda. You don't know me, you don't know anything about me. Because I choose to express my opinion in an online forum I am seeking to restart my career and seek attention? Well, I have no regrets about my life choices, I do what I want and I say what I want, and I don't usually waste time answering to nobodies like yourself. No, I won't put up a picture, and no, I won't expand my article, and frankly, it doesn't much matter to me what people think I am or was. Just keep your grubby hands off my page if you don't mind. Just the facts, that's all I want. I don't want to waste half my life editing this largely irrelevant archive. If people want to know about me, or my Emmy, or all the things I have written, they can go look it up somewhere on their own, or get a life. AWhitneyBrown 21:53, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- It's a good thing you are noted for your sense of humor. At least you aren't obsessed with your article. Most bios are developed without the help of the subject, so I don't see any problem there, either. Cheers Rklawton 21:56, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
