Thanks you all, your explanations answered my question. Probably my example wasn't the most appropriate. The reason of my question was something that happened to me recentely.I went to a restaurant in which I'd booked a table. The person who received me said there was no table available. I said " I called you a couple of hours ago and you said there was no problem" His response was "When you make a statement be sure of what you say, you didn't call me, you call the manager who's the one taking the bookings" I was petrified about his rudeness. As English is not my first I just wanted to confirm I was correct. I was polite all the time. He must have been annoyed for reasons I don't know.92.7.102.15 (talk) 19:33, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
