  • Year built: 1996-present day
  • Cars per set: 3
  • Unit nos.: 441–490 (dual-voltage) refurbished IR4, 501–570 (DC-only) refurbished IC3.
  • Notes: E.M.U, D.M.U, SNCB AM96 / NMBS MS96 (MS96 in Dutch, AM96 in French) Belgian Railways Class 96, They incorporate features from the DSB IC3 trainsets in order to enable passage from one set coach to another and the early design of the DSB IC3 train. When two or more units are coupled together in a single train, the entire front door folds away to give a wide passage, and the rubber diaphragms at the ends form a flush aerodynamic seal. The trainsets have air conditioning that can be controlled per coach, which makes them suitable for long distances. Class 96 made by Bombardier Transportation-ABB Scandia/ Bombardier Transportation Denmark, Randers, Denmark.

    1. ^ "March 1996 :After rumours to the contrary, CFL and NMBS/SNCB have confirmed that the electrification (at 25 kV) of Rivage-Gouvy, the missing link on the Liege- Luxemburg line, will be completed by 1999. In addition, BF 7 bilion is to be invested in the Brussels-Luxemburg line with the aim of reducing journey times to less than 2 hours. :In spite of repeated strike actions, the Belgian Governement adopted the proposals to restructure NMBS/SNCB in the period 1996-2005, including the increased state aid for rolling stock and infrastructure. :On Monday 25 February 1996, Belgian Railways presented their first new EMU, numbered 441. The first 50 ones will be dual-voltage (3kV=/25kV~), the last 70 ones only for 3kV. The nose is taken over from Danish IC-3 EMUs. :The small portable computer with which Belgian guards will be equipped is called Ivette (and not Yvette, as in ETN of februari).  :[contribution (from "Today's Railways") by Kees Smilde]". www.belrail.be :.
