Welcome!
Interested in becoming a regular contributor to Wikipedia? Create an account! Your , so you might receive messages on this page that were not intended for you.To have your own user pages, keep track of articles you've edited in a watchlist, and have access to a few other special features, please consider registering an account! It's fast and free. (Note: Sometimes, due to vandalism, you may be temporarily unable to register). Applying an indefinite block to this IP is not appropriate, unless it is a soft block, because the IP address will later be reallocated to a different, unrelated, and unsuspecting user, thereby impairing access to Wikipedia in an inappropriate fashion. Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking. The best approach is to determine the CIDR IP numerical address range and make a higher-level decision to soft-block the entire range. http://www.arin.net/ (for approximately North America) and related sites can help to identify that range. Caution is advised when applying a range block as other Wikipedians, both registered and otherwise, may be affected.
Review contributions carefully if blocking this IP address or reverting its contributions. If a block is needed, administrators should consider a soft block using Template:Anonblock. Network administrators, to monitor this IP address for vandalism, can subscribe to a web feed of this page in either RSS or Atom format. |

- In The Irish Times article linked to above, Shane Fitzgerald claims to have been the one responsible for inserting made-up quotes in Maurice Jarre's wikipedia article. Those quotes were added from this IP address. It could be called deliberate vandalism or a fascinating experiment by a sociology student or both. Pnelnik (talk) 12:49, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Mature being I am. We internet moles can find anyone from anywhere. Mature beings are we. Not much to say have we. Just something mature. And mole. --62.216.118.84 (talk) 22:40, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Please do not add hoaxes to Wikipedia. Hoaxes are caught and marked for deletion shortly after they are created. If you are interested in how accurate Wikipedia is, a more constructive test method is to try to find inaccurate statements that are already in Wikipedia – and then to correct them if possible. Please don't disrupt Wikipedia in an attempt to test our ability to detect and remove such material. Feel free to take a look at the five pillars of Wikipedia policy to learn more about this project and how you can make a positive impact. Thank you. Gsmgm (talk) 13:30, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edit, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
You have been indefinitely blocked from editing Wikipedia as a result of your disruptive edits. Vandalism (including page blanking or addition of random text), spam, deliberate misinformation, privacy violations, personal attacks; and repeated, blatant violations of our neutral point of view policy will not be tolerated. I have made this an indef block of IP address. Admins, please discuss this here or at WP:AN, before un-blocking, in any way, per [1]. Bearian (talk) 19:20, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Wow, despite the fact that this made the news, not only on the Irish Times like listed but also on MSNBC, some still have the nerve to accuse him of "testing our ability to detect and remove such material", and they do it over 2 months after the test occured! (IP addresses had probably changed by that time) Mr. Fitzgerald did a great test, it didn't ruin the quality of Wikipedia at all and generally benefited those Wikipedia serves by making them more alert about how to use content from this website. Either way, he wasn't testing how accurate Wikipedia is, he was testing to see how gullible journalists are, and trying to find inaccuracies in Wikipedia wouldn't have been an effective test. Furthermore, unlike Wikipedia admins, his goal was not to be "constructive" but to conduct a test, so he had no interest in a "constructive" test method but only an "effective" test method. Thus these user warnings were irrelevant from the start. There is a world out there outside Wikipedia, you know, try checking it out sometime. 71.113.32.150 (talk) 06:41, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
