Reverting vandalism
[edit]I've been reverting some vandalism, but I don't know how to attract an administrator's attention to the vandal such that they can recieve a warning or be blocked. Help out a newbie!
- Hi, thanks for being proactive against vandalism. You can actually start by warning the vandal yourself. After you revert the vandalism go to their user page and add the appropriate template such as {{uw-vandalism1}}. Some more of these templates, with descriptions of what they are used for, are at Wikipedia:Template_messages/User_talk_namespace. The vandalism templates, for instance should advance from 1-4. Once the user has been warned all four times, if they continue to vandalize you can report them at Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism. I hope this helps, if you still have questions then use the help template again or contact me on my talk page. Stardust8212 05:42, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
DYK for Ruby Brooks
[edit]On July 21, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ruby Brooks, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Re: Nantwich Bridge
[edit]Many thanks for the most-undeserved barn star. I've had the two Roger Wilbrahams confused myself in the past, as they both managed to found almshouses in the same street -- you'd think these people were trying to confuse Wikipedians! Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 02:29, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
Omaha Race Riot of 1919
[edit]An anonymous user placed a copyright hold on the article Omaha Race Riot of 1919 claiming the text came mostly from site [1]. I have not been able to verify this, and in fact there are several sources quoted in the article that do not come from this website. This copyright notice also makes it impossible to see the text of the article. Is there a way to fix this? The text says that only an administrator should remove the copyright notice. I'm too new to fully know what I have authority to remove, but I'd like someone to look into this, as it seems a good article is not viewable at the moment. Thanks! Settlet (talk) 01:50, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- You can see the previous stuff at this link. Otherwise, it should be dealt with by an administrator in due time. —fetch·comms 01:55, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- When the IP user tagged the article here as a copyvio they cited it against a site which mirrors Wikipedia's content. The tag appears erroneous. My76Strat 02:14, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- I have realized an error on my part in that the site referenced in the difference is not the site which mirrors Wikipedia content. Apologies. My76Strat 02:42, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- This article *still* isn't viewable except in history mode. At most one section is in violation, and yet an anonymous editor, with this one single edit, can essentially blank the page. How do I throw a big enough temper-tantrum (in a high class way, of course) to attract an administrator's attention? Thanks all for the help! Settlet (talk) 05:26, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Like It Is (public affairs program)
[edit]I see you added Like It Is (public affairs program) airs in New York City. Though it airs in New York City, WABC's signal reaches much of the New York metropolitan area which would also encompass most of northern New Jersey and southwestern Connecticut. Idk if Gil Noble's awards count for Like It Is (public affairs program) or vice versa.Wlmg (talk) 21:50, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks! Perhaps I shoud say that it "airs *from* New York City"? I added that because it isn't available in most of the country, and I thought it was ambiguous the way it was previously. What do you think is best? Thanks! Settlet (talk) 21:52, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
I dunno "airs" sounds kind of old fashioned. Maybe some along the lines of originates from WABC in New York City serving the Tri-State Region. Whatever best gets the point across.Wlmg (talk) 00:16, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- That's what happens when the editor is an Old Time Radio fan. Anyway, I like your wording, so done! Settlet (talk) 01:39, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Sir, In regards to Gil Noble's emmy awards. I have found a source that has him receiving a "New York Emmy Award" NYEMMYS silver circle in 1997. As a native New Yorker I had no idea that such an animal even existed. I really don't feel like going on a snipe hunt for his Emmys. Maybe another day. Regards, Wlmg Wlmg (talk) 18:53, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- OK, I'm not sure you need to give a reference to every single emmy award won, but something caused you to write the sentence. It's certainly the type of show that would win seven emmys. Settlet (talk) 21:39, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
Morey Amsterdam death
[edit]Take another look at the change I made that you reverted. You changed the date of his death to the 28th in the text, but had left the date as the 27th in the info box. I updated the info box to show it as the 28th. Your reverted the info box date to the 27th. Shsilver (talk) 13:08, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Major mea culpa. Thanks. I perhaps shouldn't edit right after waking up. 78.26 (talk) 14:05, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
