Thank you! I have been discussing the 4f issue on and off at WikiProject Elements for months by now. If you're interested, you can join in the discussion, it's open for everybody (even if it has mostly been among some regular participants). I also plan to propose changing the way we draw the PT on Wikipedia by default in about a month when I have time for that, too.

BTW, the Madelung-rule anomalies like lanthanum getting a 5d electron are honestly chemically pointless for the simple reason that the 4f configuration is such a low excited state that in chemical environments a La atom may well get the 4f electron it was supposed to have anyway thanks to the bond energies.
