Copyvios at Southeastern Ceremonial Complex

[edit]

No, you have it the wrong way around. Peach State routinely copies verbatim from Wikipedia articles, even going so far as to have used the same illustrations from articles. And they do not credit Wikipedia as their sources or use the correct attributions when they use our images per the image page requirements. It is rather egregious. But you were correct about one thing, if it had been the other way around it would have been a very serious breach of our policy on copyright or WP:COPYVIOs here at Wikipedia. Ahh, interesting. Another layer of annoying complexity on the internet. I'll have to keep an eye out to avoid them in the future then. Thanks for clarifying the policy as well. Cheers. 71.212.203.64 (talk) 08:22, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It is what it is. As an open source encyclopedia we let people use and reuse our content for free, so technically the only rule they are breaking is not citing where they got their content. You mentioned you were doing research. I'm not sure if you have ever went there, but academia.edu has literally thousands of scientific papers and articles uploaded by scholars, and can be a great resource for researching Mississippian culture, S.E.C.C., etc. (I've written many of the articles on the subject here and I am also the artist who created many of the illustrations, and I have used them often when researching the subjects) Heiro 17:52, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
