Information icon Hello, I'm Megabits000. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Liahona Preparatory Academy seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Megabits000 (talk) 04:12, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I tried to go to your talk page but I got a bit confused and I just want to make sure I send my message to the right place, so hopefully this works.
Hi there Megabits000, I’m the one who recently edited Liahona Preparatory Academy’s page. Thank you for sending me the message explaining why my edits were undone. Although I do agree my edit was biased, I also believe that the current page has a very negative and skeptical attitude towards The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and Liahona Preparatory Academy which is misleading. My goal is just to collaborate and make an unbiased edit to this site. Here are some specific edits I’d appreciate being made:
Removing the word “purported” from the first paragraph. The Oxford Dictionary defines this word as “appear or claim to be or do something, especially falsely; profess”. I believe it serves as a term to discredit the Book of Mormon. Regardless of whether you believe this book to be true, many people do, and as it references the Book of Mormon in the same sentence, I believe readers can mentally insert their own opinions about the book.
Editing the “Restoration Education” section from “However, there is no substantial evidence…” on. I have many scholarly sources I’d be happy to send to you regarding this section, and I would appreciate its deletion. I’d also encourage you to look at Liahona Preparatory Academy’s official site, as they have a page regarding their stance on Restoration Education and in actuality it’s quite different than what is described on the Wikipedia page. The website’s “Why Liahona” section states, “The mission of Liahona Preparatory Academy is to assist parents in educating their children in the fundamentals of the arts, letters, and sciences while integrating the truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. We strive to provide an LDS Based Education by infusing secular knowledge with LDS doctrine and values so that students might integrate all understanding in the context of the eternal. We call this ‘Restoration Education.’’ The “Why Liahona” section of the website accurately describes the school’s aim and take on “Restoration Education”.
The main section I would appreciate to be deleted is the Controversy section. Although none of this information is false, its only relevance to Liahona Preparatory Academy’s page is the fact that he was a prior soccer teacher and had inappropriate interactions on (unconfirmed) school grounds. This crime was committed over twelve years ago, and Broch Degraff has never had contact or association with the school since. His parents are no longer in charge of the school and the school has been under new ownership since 2016. Thus, this information is no longer relevant to the school. If you do insist on keeping some of this, I believe creating a “School History” section to replace the “Controversy” section would be a more accurate view of Liahona’s history. I can add history about the previous owners, teachers, etc, and briefly reference the crime committed by Broch Degraff.
I have much recent information regarding Liahona’s athletics, theatre, and trips sections I’d also be happy to add to. I’d just like to make Liahona Preparatory Academy’s Wikipedia page an unbiased site that recognizes and respects the beliefs and opinions of others. Thank you for reading this lengthy response,

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, 68.70.233.194. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Liahona Preparatory Academy, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Since you are "Liahona’s social media manager" you have a clear conflict of interest. And this is not Liahona's article. It is Wikipedia's article about Liahona. You may suggest changes on the article's talk page page, but you should not make them yourself, and you certainly cannot tell other users not to edit the article.
