Did you consider taking one minute to rephrase a few sentences to avoid uppercase at the beginning of a sentence, like this? I suppose that's too much to ask of someone so busy commanding the grammar police. Let me guess: You're a middle school teacher, where the letter of the law in teaching writing is far more important than a bit of regard for a well-respected author and writing professor. By the way, the letter (and the spirit) of the law of Wikipedia is that you can't change another person's comments on a talk page, and that includes the title to this section that I wrote above. Jeezus. What an arrogant jackass. Last things first: I did not "misspell a word" in my edit summary. I can only guess that you're referring to the fact that I truncated the word "paragraph". Since when is that any kind of issue whatsoever??

Far importantly: I have no problem with you or anybody else rewording a sentence to avoid the first word cap rule. And you could have done so very easily and left it at that, without hunting me down to spew obnoxious garbage on my talk page. To quote from a certain editor's User page: "I have read and edited Wikipedia unregistered for about eight years. I registered because I have learned that IPs sometimes are treated as ignorant, second-class citizens by a few unwelcoming users." How ironically hilarious!

Lastly, I am not a middle school teacher. It so happens that I have taught writing at the college level. I'm sorry to have to tell you, but a surprising number of incoming students have not mastered many basic elements of English. That includes first-word capitalization. It's no trivial thing. (If you don't understand that, you really should not be editing here.) I am sure bell hooks, who I have the highest regard for, would not be in the least offended. I would have left the same message for someone who has been registered for decades. It has nothing to do with being an IP. I considered telling you to look up the meaning of irony, but I realized that dictionary publishers will rush to change their definitions after someone who taught at the college level points out their error. P.S. - I neglected to point out that using truncated spelling in an edit summary is utterly commonplace and not considered an issue, grammatical or otherwise, by any sane person. P.S. Spelling an author's name the way he/she wants it spelled (e.g., e e cummings) is commonplace and not considered an issue, grammatical or otherwise, by any sane person.
