TDA
I read TDA's talk page and also followed your invitation to reflect on his recent edits and I don't know what the problem is. He voices his opinion about what's going on in WP and WPO, but he doesn't out anyone or call anyone names. Giano, among others, also used to do the same thing whenever he was blocked and no one ever shut off his talk page access. It looks like you're just trying to silence this editor's opinions even though he's not violating any policies. Cla68 (talk) 00:13, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
- And by the way, inviting someone to "reflect on their recent edits" is incredibly patronizing and condescending. I know it's part of WP culture for WP admins to talk to non-admin editors that way, especially editors who have just been blocked, but it's likely one of the reasons why WP's editor base is so rapidly declining. Would you say that to TDA or anyone else if he/she was standing face-to-face, looking you in the eye? I seriously doubt it, because I wouldn't tell you something like that to your face, even if we had a work-related supervisor/subordinate relationship. I would only talk that way to one of my children, and only before they turn 15 years old. I don't know why you all think you can treat people like that, except you're blinded by the anonymity of the internet and brings out the worst in you. Cla68 (talk) 00:17, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
- I also saw this and my reaction was the opposite. User talk pages are not soapboxes or forums. I'm usually willing to allow some leeway for blocked editors to discuss things not related to their block, but the whole point of a block is to prevent the blocked editor from editing. Bypassing that by posting on your own talk page and pinging people in order to express your opinions defeats the point of the block. Besides, the whole "Message to SLOWP observers" thread is yet another violation of his Gamergate topic ban—the topic ban for which he was originally blocked for violating. For the third time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 00:30, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
(edit conflict) (talk page stalker) Blocked users should only be editing their talk pages to appeal or request clarification of their block, anyone persistently using their talk page for other purposes should and in most cases will have their ability to edit it removed. TDA was not attempting to appeal or clarify his block, and was attempting to participate in Wikipedia by proxy and so 5AS' action was correct. I do not believe that the phrasing was intended to be patronising (it would be rather out of character for one thing), and while it could be seen as impolite I do not see it as a major issue. Thryduulf (talk) 00:34, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Cla68 sorry but talk pages are not forums or soapboxes and when you are blocked they should only be used to discuss possible unblocking. The way TDA was using his talk page was to get a way of editing Wikipedia whilst blocked. So, I treated them the way I would any other person who evades their block which is to increase the original block and to revoke talk page access as that was being abused. Sorry if I came across as patronising, I can assure you that was not meant.--5 albert square (talk) 00:42, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
