Live updates

[edit]

Hi. Two clear examples proving, why adding something to the standings the race till the finish is wrong: 1. 2019 Spa-Francorchamps Formula 2 round was declared abandoned, so no one of the retired drivers was recognized as the retired by race officials. 2. According to live timing Dan Ticktum returned to the race. Please, familiarize yourself with WP:NOTNEWS and WP:Crystal guidelines. Cheers. Corvus tristis (talk) 09:37, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

He was clearly shown as retired on the broadcast and I would make the same edit again in the same situation. "Unretiring" is something I have not observed before and I don't imagine it's common. Regardless, you did do the right thing reverting, and I should have rechecked before I restored my edit. Thanks.

It seems that you do not understand the main point. Even if Ticktum decided to retire completely, till the checkered flag, retirement is not an actual result in the standings, it is an assumption. We don't add assumptions as it clearly stated in the guidelines. Corvus tristis (talk) 09:47, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In a typical situation it wouldn't be an assumption though. Retirement is virtually always – with this being a significant and obvious exception – final. It's a commonsense call, but I'm not massively concerned and I'm not going to argue it with you. Thanks for your message and I will take more care in future.

DYK for Ralph Debbas

[edit]

On 25 July 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ralph Debbas, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Ralph Debbas founded the first Middle Eastern automotive company in 2012, making him the first automotive executive in the Middle East? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ralph Debbas. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Ralph Debbas), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
