Populated place

Hi. This is in regards to this recent edit of yours.

In our categorization system, the term "Populated place" is roughly equivalent to Human settlement by definition. That is, populated place categories are restricted in scope to cities, towns, villages, etc., but exclude counties, states, provinces, districts, and other entities that would be otherwise commonly understood to be "Populated places".

The people who decided to use this terminology,(see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2023 January 15#Category:Buildings and structures in the United States by state and city) never considered how confusing it might be.[1] --DB1729^talk 18:35, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users.
