Speedy deletion nomination of Template:Governors-General of India
[edit]A tag has been placed on Template:Governors-General of India requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Ninney (talk) 00:21, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

Using named refs and citing page numbers
[edit]Hi 19thPharaoh,
Thanks for your contributions, and high five for being assiduous about using references to support your additions. Just a couple of things to make your citations and contributions even better:
- Please be generous with your edit summaries. When you add a few thousand bytes to an article like you did here: (a, b, c, d, e, f), an edit summary of "add info" is not enough.
- Please read about using named references. When you use the same source multiple times, like you did at Tiwana family of Shahpur, John Harry Barclay Nihill, and Joseph Alfred Sheridan, you only have to add complete citation info for the very first citation of a given source; for second and subsequent citations of the same source, just cite the reference name, you don't need to repeat the whole reference again. (See {{rp}} or {{sfn}} for how to indicate different page numbers than the original citation used.) See the latest version of Malik Fateh Khan Tiwana for an example of how to do this: note that the footnotes that use the same source are consolidated in the "References" section at the bottom, and the source code of the page is about 1,000 bytes shorter, and easier to read; it's also easier to add additional citations from the same work using a named reference.
- When citing sources, don't forget to include the page number. For example, where you cited Lethbridge's book in this footnote at Malik Fateh Khan Tiwana, remember that this is a 584-page volume and to maintain Wikipedia's core principle of Verifiability a page number is needed in the citation to it, and in every footnote for a source that is more than a page or two long.
- Consider using the {{citation}} series of templates, like {{cite book}} and {{cite web}}, and the others in the series. they help organize your citations, and ensure they're filled out properly and get formatted correctly. Here's a template you can cut/paste to get you started:
<ref name="Lastname-YYYY">{{cite book |last= |first= |year= |title= |url= |page= |publisher= |location= |isbn= |access-date= }}</ref>
, and here's an example of it for citing Singh-2015:[1] You can see how it looks in the References section below.
You can read more about writing great citations at Help:Footnotes. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 09:24, 21 January 2018 (UTC)
