ST47, you blocked this IP for being a webhost, but it is actually Starlink, although I don't think it is the old block. Oddly, the error message I get is:

"The IP address or range 93.152.208.0/20 has been blocked by ‪ST47‬ for the following reason(s):" followed by the normal webhost block template.

Then it tells me that my ip is 14.1.92.185. "This block will expire on 05:36, 30 September 2026. Your current IP address is 14.1.92.185." etc. I tried with VPN, and I get the normal block notices for those IP addresses (which I would expect) but I only get this message when I have the VPN off, which is how I normally edit logged out. I've edited with this IP before, and now it is blocking this starlink IP (14*) and giving the reason that an unrelated IP (93*) was blocked by you. Not sure if there is anything you can do (and I'm sure it wasn't anything you did wrong), but I at least wanted to bring it to your attention, and maybe take a look to see if some odd thing is preventing this. I've tried a few non-semi-protected articles, same thing each time. It won't even let me edit ST47's talk page.

{{checkuser needed}} Also pinging a generic CU needed since this is a range block issue (sorry guys/gals, not sure who else to ping)

Text of page below. I can't think that I'm the only one having this issue, considering I've edited recently. 14.1.92.185 (talk) 08:43, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, CU here. This is quite curious - your 14.1... range shouldn't be affected by any blocks. I apologize if you've already done this, but have you tried clearing your cookies and attempting to edit from Starlink again? Spicy (talk) 14:42, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Spicy, it IS curious isn't it? I did try reconnecting but not rebooting or clearing the cache, which I probably should have except I had already verified that the IP that I was showing outward was indeed the 14*/Starlink, and it didn't make sense. Today, however, it is working fine, some 24 hours later.
btw, this is Dennis Brown, without admin tools or being logged in, so I couldn't use the regular IP tools. I was more afraid that something borked on the server side (and further testing shows it is a server side setting at play) and wanted to bring it to your attention. The 93* resolves to an addy that I'm kind of sure I've never used. In fact, I tested access through Bulgaria multiple times, so I'm pretty sure I never was using the 93* addy (Surfshark is what I use). It's raining cats and dogs here in the Philippines, and Starlink doesn't like tropical rain storms, so my access is spotty at best today. It took over an hour to even post this. I did a test, where I DID connect to my VPN, tried to Preview here, got the warning again, disconnected my VPN and it still wouldn't allow me to post, exact same message as before, but with the proper IP that the VPN had used. It would be easy to say "well, you were just connected with 93* and didn't know it", and maybe, but I don't see how.
But now I'm puzzled because the system won't let me post if I've tried to edit with the VPN and turned it off, which I've clearly established. That might be a bug, or that might be a feature. If it is a feature, it's kind of problematic, or maybe just paranoid, and not very friendly to VPN users who are willing to turn the VPN off. Using generic chrome/win11/etc. As per my user page, you're free to poke around as deep as you want, if you are so inclined. But it does seem clear that it sets a cookie and refused to allow me to edit after I have tried to use the VPN once, even via a clean IP. 14.1.92.32 (talk) 12:18, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

text of page when I try to edit
This IP address has been blocked from editing Wikipedia.

This does not affect your ability to read Wikipedia pages. Most people who see this message have done nothing wrong. Some kinds of blocks restrict editing from specific service providers or telecom companies in response to recent abuse or vandalism, and can sometimes affect other users who are unrelated to that abuse. Review the information below for assistance if you do not believe that you have done anything wrong. The IP address or range 93.152.208.0/20 has been blocked by ‪ST47‬ for the following reason(s):

The IP address that you are currently using has been blocked because it is believed to be a web host provider. To prevent abuse, web hosts may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. You will not be able to edit Wikipedia using a web host provider because it hides your IP address, much like a proxy or VPN. We recommend that you attempt to use another connection to edit. For example, if you use a proxy or VPN to connect to the internet, turn it off when editing Wikipedia. If you edit using a mobile connection, try using a Wi-Fi connection, and vice versa. If you are using a corporate internet connection, switch to a different Wi-Fi network. If you have a Wikipedia account, please log in.

If you do not have any other way to edit Wikipedia, you will need to request an IP block exemption.

How to appeal if you are confident that your connection does not use a web host's IP address:

This block will expire on 05:36, 30 September 2026. Your current IP address is 14.1.92.185.

Even when blocked, you will usually still be able to edit your user talk page, as well as email administrators and other editors.

For information on how to proceed, please read the FAQ for blocked users and the guideline on block appeals. The guide to appealing blocks may also be helpful.
