[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page The Byrds Play Dylan has been reverted.
Your edit here to The Byrds Play Dylan was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links in references which are discouraged per our reliable sources guideline. The reference(s) you added or changed (https://www.discogs.com/The-Byrds-The-Byrds-Play-Dylan/release/2547854) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. WP:WAS and WP:PRESENT
[edit]Hi -- there was a discussion recently that updated WP:WAS, and WP:PRESENT should have been updated to match. Can you stop making the changes for now? I'll put links to the relevant discussions here in a moment. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 13:57, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- I'd rather not. The old rule made sense. Magazines don't stop existing because new issues aren't coming out. 128.151.71.11 (talk) 14:00, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- The discussion that established this rule is here. There are plenty of people who agree with you, but that turned out to be the minority position -- as you'll see there was a lot of discussion about it. Now that it's specified in the manual of style, you would have to start another discussion to change it back. Without that we should stick to what the style guide currently says -- the justification for sticking to the style guide is that it prevents back-and-forth edits such as these. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 14:06, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- Making this rule will only add to confusion, since no sensible person would think there was a difference between a magazine no longer published and a tv show no longer produced. But Wikipedia stupid is as Wikipedia stupid does, so I'll follow the guidelines. 128.151.71.11 (talk) 14:13, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. I have sympathy for the view that "a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds", but I think it's worth it to avoid pointlessly changing things back and forth. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 14:17, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
