Adding climate stats

[edit]

Please see discussion here: Wikipedia:Australian_Wikipedians'_notice_board#Adding_climate_statistics_for_Sydney_suburbs. LibStar (talk) 02:46, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is a really, really bad idea for many reasons that I've described in this message. If you continue editing like this, you may be blocked. Graham87 (talk) 08:43, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Look, I believe you made a good case for the western suburbs having North Parramatta's weather station. But for the eastern suburbs, the Sydney Airport weather station is in the Airport, and the proximate suburbs can be applicable. Botany is right in the eastern flank of the Airport. So I don't know why you omitted the climate data for Botany when it's less 500m away from the Airport weather station. 124.150.67.252 (talk) 03:44, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because the climate data is for Sydney Airport and *only* Sydney Airport. Saying that it applies anywhere else without a solid reliable source (even 500 metres away) is original research and is forbidden here. Not to mention that the data can quickly go out of date. Information icon Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Fantastic Mr. Fox (film), please make sure that the subject of the article really belongs in the category that you specified according to Wikipedia's categorization guidelines. The category being added must already exist, and must be supported by the article's verifiable content. Categories may be removed if they are deemed incorrect for the subject matter. Thank you. Thanks for informing me. I don't know, but the film has been categorized under the "crime" or "crime comedy" genre in some credible sources such as IMDb and Disney+. After all, theft and heisting are of the main themes in the film. Will "American crime comedy films" be a good categorization? 124.150.67.252 (talk) 08:17, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can't speak to Disney+ as I'm not a subscriber, but IMDb is not a reliable source. I don't think you should use genre categories that aren't in the lead of the article unless there's substantial discussion of them in the body, excepting the plot summary (i.e. don't use the plot summary for categorization purposes). Hope this helps! DonIago (talk) 13:35, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Noted. Thanks! 124.150.67.252 (talk) 13:46, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure why you thought in light of the above discussion that it was appropriate to add the categories you added to this film, but I've reverted you. You're welcome to discuss at the article's Talk page if you disagree. DonIago (talk) 06:15, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I thought I was supposed to add content that are "in the lead of the article". The lead states that the characters in the film are chased and hunted (hence my "chase film" category addition). By the way, you can't fit every genre in the lead. Most leads about films have two or three genres ([insert film] is a 1993 action-adventure romance film). Maybe that's why the category section should be an area that can allow more genres - That's what I thought it was (as other articles have two genres in leads and many genres in the category section). Anyway, thanks. I'll open this convo in the article's talk page maybe. 124.150.67.252 (talk) 10:45, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I never said the genre has to be in the lead; I said if it's not in the lead then there should be discussion of it in the body of the article, excepting the plot summary. Plot elements such as the characters being chased doesn't necessarily qualify as a genre for the film...a film with comedic elements, for instance, isn't necessarily considered a comedy film. In any case, I've responded to you a bit more in depth at the article's Talk page; thank you for moving this conversation there, where more eyes can see it and weigh in.
