Hello, I'm Gatemansgc. I noticed that you recently removed content from Magellanic Clouds without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. - Hello,
- Thanks for reaching out. Yes, I removed the content below:
- As of 2023, some astronomers believe the Magellanic Clouds should be renamed, alleging that Magellan was a murderer and neither an astronomer nor the discoverer of the dwarf galaxies
- This should not be in the main page. The reference given is an op-ed, and it's clearly a fringe idea: https://nypost.com/2023/11/03/news/woke-astronomers-demand-renaming-of-magellanic-clouds/
- I see that you reverted the edit. Instead of deleting, I added a (documented) disclaimer saying: "This is, however, a fringe view not shared among the majority of astronomers."
- The edit got reverted again. I left a comment in the talk page. It's problematic to have this in the wiki of the Magellanic clouds, as it gives the erroneous impression of some imminent name change. 103.212.52.188 (talk) 09:19, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
