Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Éóg1916, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as Risteard Ó Foghluadha, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may not be retained.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{help me}} on this page, followed by your question, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! noq (talk) 23:14, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Risteard Ó Foghluadha requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. noq (talk) 23:14, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deuterostome

[edit]

Hi, Éirugena I reverted your link to ga:Deuterostoma on the edit page. Interwiki links are now done through Wikidata. I took care of that for this article. In the future, to insert a link just go to "Languages" in the leftmost column, then click on "Edit links". That will take you to the page at Wikidata that lists all projects linking to an article. Go to the bottom and add an article there. When you set up an article at the Irish Wikipedia—Vicipéid—you can insert a link from there. Thanks/GRMA as na hailt seo. Ar fheabhas! Seagoe Parish Church

[edit]

I once wrote an article on Bunscoil an Iúir and it was taken down because Wikipedia did not allow articles on schools! Why is this article not taken down? Ériugena (talk) 17:50, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Countries of the United Kingdom

[edit]

You have recently moved Countries of the United Kingdom to Parts of the United Kingdom, made some edits to that page and a related edit to Terminology of the British Isles. These edits relate to the status of Northern Ireland.

As indicated in Talk:Parts of the United Kingdom, that article is subject to active arbitration remedies, as laid out during a 2007 Arbitration case. This is a sensitive subject and we should be careful to keep the article neutral. I am not challenging the neutrality of your text, although your edit summary suggests that you may not be neutral on these issues.

Even though the 2007 Arbitration case does not appear to forbid the unilateral renaming of the article, I strongly feel that any proposal to rename it should follow the Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves discussion process. I have discussed the issue at Talk:Countries of the United Kingdom#Page title and terminology. I have reverted these changes. If you want to press for the article to be renamed then please follow the procedure at WP:RM#CM. Regards, Verbcatcher (talk) 22:29, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that you have marked many of your edits as minor edits, including your edit to Terminology of the British Isles. This may have been inadvertent, if not please see Help:Minor edit. As you are active in other Wikipedia language editions you may selected the Mark all edits minor by default editing option. This option is not available to editors whose "home wiki" is English Wikipedia. Verbcatcher (talk) 23:17, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Move of William III of England

[edit]

Your move of William III of England to William III of England,Scotland and Ireland had several problems. First and most obviously it is missing a space which leads me to think it was done hastily. While they can be undone, page moves are significant and should not be undertaken lightly (or as with your prior move of Countries of the United Kingdom with a possible agenda). The other problem is that this William is not the 3rd William of Scotland but the 2nd so the proposed title is bogus. Changes like these should be first discussed on the article talk page and consensus reached. Thanks. —DIYeditor (talk) 23:08, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I did not mean it to sound like I felt you certainly had an agenda here, only that it seemed that it was possible there was something related to Protestant-Catholic conflict in common with both the moves because the issue had been raised above with the last one. Certainly there is nothing wrong with having an interest in the topic(s). I think I failed to assume good faith and I apologize. Happy editing! —DIYeditor (talk) 17:02, 6 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Campanula angustiflora.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Campanula angustiflora.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 22:29, 19 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Alliance Française, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page French (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Cúrsaí Staire (book) moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Cúrsaí Staire (book), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. September 2020

[edit]

Information icon Hi Ériugena! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Republic of Ireland that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Please note that this is your second warning for misuse of the minor edit feature. Continued misuse after warning is disruptive. DrKay (talk) 15:42, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Discretionary sanctions notification

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Troubles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Information icon Please do not move a page to a title that is harder to follow, or move it unilaterally against naming conventions or consensus, as you did to Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke. Speedy deletion nomination of Miles Bourke, 2nd Viscount of Mayo

[edit]

Hello, Ériugena,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username TheLongTone, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged Miles Bourke, 2nd Viscount of Mayo for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. You may find our guide for writing quality articles to be extremely informative. Also, you may want to consider working on future articles in draft space first, where they cannot be deleted for lacking content.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|TheLongTone}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!
