Stanley Cup image problems

Have the image copyright problems been settled. I've put on GAC, but it's on hold right now over image issues. I don't see any tags on all the images anymore, so can you have look because I'm not sure whether the said image copyright problems still exist or not. Evilclown93 12:10, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Mexico gallery must not be deleted. I ask you ask you as a favor to let Mexico gallery stay because it shows the beauty of Mexico. Mexico is a country that has been discriminated by being rancheros with a burrito and its hat in the desert. But thats not true. It is a country with beauty that can be showed on the pictures. Let gallery stay and show readers the beauty of Mexico, please do not delete the gallery. Many apologies

I just want to take a moment and apologize for my edits regarding The Secret of NIMH. I was operating off of a memory that the subject matter was British. If I had taken even a moment to read the pages on the film or the book I would have found out how wrong I was. I wish I could blame it on early onset alzheimers but, in fact, it was darn laziness - dag nab it - so, again, many apologies for wasting your time here at wikiP. Unclear what you meant by "strengthened out". Is the most recent version of Criterion 8 strong enough, too strong, or not strong enough? (It looks pretty strong, almost too strong to me, but I don't implement the policy, so I don't experience the problems and thus can't comment on that issue.) Tony 10:46, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Deletion debates of a few supercouples within the scope of Wikipedia: Wiki Project Soap Operas

A few articles within the scope of Wikipedia: WikiProject Soap Operas have been nominated for deletion. But this is before we've gotten around to truly improving these particular articles. At this rate, if these articles are more so targeted because they are soap opera couple articles, I find it very off, given that these articles are a work in progress. I was hoping that you could lend your voice on this matter in their deletion debates, as I will contact all participants of Wikipedia: WikiProject Soap Operas to weigh in on this matter as well. I do not believe that getting rid of these or any supercouple articles on Wikipedia is the answer, improving them is.

So far, I know of three true supercoupe articles nominated for deletion:

This FP is no longer used in the tesseract article. There are several "improved" versions by the same author that are now used in that article instead. Perhaps User:JasonHise should be contacted about nominating one of the improved versions to replace this FP, before we feature this on the MainPage. Thanks.--Pharos 20:21, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Elonka and I are trying to work at making Days of our Lives an eventual good or featured article. Would you like to help us? Before you say "no, I don't watch that show!", Elonka doesn't either and we're still working as a team on it. Deletion or transfer

Maybe it's something even out of your reach, but can you either delete or transfer logs of mine of non-sports related edits ( see [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], [11], and many more edits from April 2-3. Sorry, but as far as I know, there is no feature currently in the Mediawiki software that allows a transfer of individual edits from one account to another. There use to be a page called Wikipedia:Changing attribution for an edit where Wikipedia's developers would take requests to alter the MySql database directly, but is now not maintained anymore due to their busy schedules. And as for deleting specific edits, under the GNU Free Documentation License, we cannot since those modifications are really legitimate. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 00:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Looking at the user access levels of MediaWiki, one possibility that is similar to what you want is contacting a user who has access to the oversight permission feature, but you probably do not qualify under those scenarios. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 00:59, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Web accessibility/colorblindness concerns???

I've noticed in articles related to BART where I color-coded names of each line that it got reverted each time. And your reason was over concerns of colorblind Wikipedia viewers who may not be able to view it, if the assumption is accurate and whatever reason it is. This was in no way intended to vandalize the articles, but to better describe a rail line with a distinguishing color from the rest of them with their own. If you really feel this way, you might as well eliminate color-text from other articles related to rail transit such as New York City Subway, DART, LACMTA or Washington Metro. BL Portal

Why did you remove the DVD images from the Boston Legal Portal and not from the actual article where they are still located? mattytay 11:21, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

The DVD images are currently tagged as non-free, fair use images, right? Rule #9 of Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria is pretty clear: "Non-free content is used only in the article namespace". As for your second question, there has been much debate on the interpretation of Rule #8, including the use of covers in lists such as here, and I am still waiting for a definite cut-and-dry ruling. Rule 9 is pretty clear... it says not to use non-free (fair use) images on templates and talk pages. I am putting it back up because the page it was on is an article viewed within a Portal - Rule 9 says nothing about Portals, only articles (...and against templates and userpages)! mattytay 03:33, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps you should study Wikipedia talk:Fair use/Amendment/Fair use images in portals, Wikipedia talk:Fair use/Amendment/Fair use images in portals2, and the other links compiled on User:Durin/Fair use miscellany#Fair use on portals.
You are also making the common fallacy of completely disregarding the first sentence: Non-free content is used only in the article namespace – arguments that "portal" isn't specifically mentioned in the rule. It is something that reminds me of a comment made on Wikipedia talk:Fair use/Archive 17#Fair use on Portals. It is far more concise than saying "not on: Media, Special, Talk, User, User talk, Wikipedia, Wikipedia talk, Image, Image talk, MediaWiki, MediaWiki talk, Template, Template talk, Help, Help talk, Category, Category talk, Portal or Portal talk". I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

San Diego Chargers

Zzyzx11 could you please give some guidence on the Charger page as it seems that your help is in great need.I have left some notes on my edits and on the talk page if Pats1 http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Pats1 , it seems that I am unable to reason with him please help. He just wiped out about 6 hours work.

Sorry for a delayed response, but I have had limited internet access this past week. Probably your best strategy is get this article to featured article status like Chicago Bears and New England Patriots. That means you should read Wikipedia:Featured article criteria, and all of the relevant guidelines. Especially you should study Wikipedia:Summary style because I get a sense that User:Pats1 wants to put detailed Chargers information on more detailed pages instead of the main one. You may also want to look at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Chicago Bears/archive4 and Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/New England Patriots to get a sense of how those articles were promoted to feature status. And you should look at all of the articles listed in Category:Chicago Bears and Category:New England Patriots to get a sense of what should put on the more detailed articles. Hope that helps. What's especially puzzling is that you replaced the redirect with an imagemap, which does make it far more difficult to reach the description page (because clicking on the image no longer leads to a page containing a link to it). A separate link to the description page appears alongside the image by default, but you suppressed it. —David Levy 05:32, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes, that's what I was referring to when I said that you suppressed the link to the description page. This icon, however, is ugly and unfamiliar (so most people won't know to click on it). What, exactly, was the problem with the previous setup (which enabled someone who clicked on the image expecting to find the description page to simply follow one additional familiar link)? —David Levy 05:43, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

I would agree if we were discussing a redirect to a page with only peripheral significance to the image. In this case, the redirect led to a page that prominently featured the original source image from which the static frame was extracted. —David Levy 06:03, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

As I posted on Wikipedia talk:Selected anniversaries#Adding a "More events" link, based on various comments on Talk:Main page and WP:ERRORS throughout the past year, I get a sense that a number of newbies do not realise that these templates list selected anniversaries because they only see the "On this day" label on the main page, and it is not obvious that we also keep a list of many other events on the date pages. Thanks for moving my image to Commons. I just love that spot and the image turned out surprisingly well considering it was just a vacation snapshot from the roadside. Our new camera does quite well! I should have uploaded it to Commons to begin with, but back then I didn't know much about uploading images. Since then I have uploaded a number of images in connection with my writing of the article Reindeer hunting in Greenland. Apparently you already previously uploaded a version of this image directly on Commons back on April 30.[13] Because of that, I felt it was appropriate to remove the version on Commons I copied from here on Wikipedia, and revert back to the April 30 version. You probably have me confused with another admin. I do not recall anybody showing me a link on ipetitions.com on the particular subject before. iirc, I had absolutely no part in the deletion of the Tourettes Guy article. If you cannot remember which admin you were in contact earlier regarding this article and the ipetition, you should probably ask the actual admins who deleted it, or those who commented on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tourettes Guy. I saw your change on RC patrol, and found this link to the University of Toronto news archive, which seems to confirm this date with respect to insulin. El Cerrito

Ahhh how frustrating =(, but! (check out my mad one word sentance skills yo!) There allready is an El Cerrito disambiguation page, and El Cerrito, California would be the proper title for the city proper, as the other El Cerrito is a CDP and the other other one is simply a neighborhood. If it's been so since 2002 its been so incorrectly and superfalously since there is allready an El Cerrito disambiguation page. Having said that, I was unaware of the cut and paste problem and the existing policy. city names

I think there is a promlem with consistancy with these cities' names.

El Cerrito, Contra Costa County, California and El Cerrito, Riverside County, California both the city and the CDP have the county in their names whereas in the case of the Mountain Views their names are Mountain View, California for the city and Mountain View, Contra Costa County, California for the CDP. I was just trying to mitigate that. I think El Cerrito, Contra Costa County, California should drop the Contra Costa County portion or Moutain View, California should be moved to Mountain View, Santa Clara County, California, for consistancy. I would prefer the former because I think incorporated cities have more prestige in this regard but I would understand if the latter is a better option of more clarity between places with identical names.CholgatalK! 09:11, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

An important letter

Dear roads editor,

You may have noticed some changes at WP:USRD lately. Some of them, like the cleanup templates and the stub templates, have been astounding and great. Unfortunately, others have been disturbing.

This has become evidenced by the departure of a few prominent editors at USRD, a few RFC's, and much fighting among USRD editors.

After the second RFC, many of us found the opportunity to take a step away from Wikipedia for a while--as a self-imposed wikibreak, or possibly on vacation.

The result of such introspection was that many of us were placing ourselves in a "walled garden" and on a self-imposed pedestal of authority over the roads department. Also, we were being hostile to a few users who were not agreeing with us.

In fact, IRC has been the main incarnation of this "walled garden." Decisions have been made there to conduct grudges and prejudices against a few valued USRD users with poor justification.

For this, we have come to apologize. We have come to ask your forgiveness.

In addition to this, we hope to work as one USRD team from now on and to encourage cooperation instead of the promotion of interests.

All users are welcome to collaborate on IRC, the newsletter, or anywhere else at USRD.

In the future, please feel free to approach us about any issues you may have.
