Kicking Horse Coffee
[edit]Kicking Horse Coffee is a Canadian-made business that sells coffee beans, coffee grounds, cold brew, and ‘Kicking Horse Coffee’ merch. It has been recognized as North Americas Number 1 Organic and Fair trade Coffee Company, as well as Canada’s Most Trusted Brand (in the coffee/tea category), and Canada’s Best Place to Work.[1]
Kicking Horse Coffee ships within North America, but is available internationally through Vitacost.[2]
Origin
[edit]In 1996, Kicking Horse Coffee was created by Elana Rosenfeld, who is still the CEO to this day.[2] Situated in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, this enterprise was started in a garage in the “middle of nowhere” A.K.A. Invermere, British Columbia.[2]
Elana Rosenfeld
[edit]CEO and Co-Founder of Kicking Horse Coffee, Elana Rosenfeld found an interest in coffee after observing her mother’s gourmet food business in Toronto in the 1970s.[3] Elana then went on to explore other areas of nutrition before starting Kicking Horse Coffee, including a seasonal fruit stand and whole food café.[3]
Elana is a member of the board for Nature Conservancy of Canada.[1] She has two daughters and enjoys her time in nature doing activities such as skiing, mountain biking, stand-up paddle boarding, and yoga.[3]
Coffee Beans
[edit]Kicking Horse Coffee uses Arabica beans to achieve a bean that is dense, aromatic, and smooth.[2] The Arabica beans that are used by Kicking Horse Coffee are grown under shade and at high altitudes which creates a biodiverse environment that benefits wildlife, plants, and people.[2]
The Arabica beans used by Kicking Horse Coffee come from both North and South America, as well as Africa and Indonesia.[2] Organic and Fairtrade farming cooperatives are a resource that this enterprise buys its beans from, specifically in the locations of “Peru, Colombia, Sumatra, East Timor, Uganda, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, Honduras, and Ethiopia”.[2]
Fairtrade and Organic
[edit]Kicking Horse Coffee is 100% certified Fairtrade and 100% certified organic.[4] [2]
