Capital Soirée is a three-piece indie rock band from the western suburbs of Chicago. The band is composed of guitarist Jimmy Kourafas, bassist Max Romero and keyboardist/guitarist Steven Rejdukowski, with all three members contributing vocals. They have released one album, three EPs and four singles. Their sound has been described as "edgy alt pop" [1] but spans many genres, including alternative rock, pop rock, and indie rock.
They have played shows at many prominent Chicago venues, including the Metro,[2], the Subterranean,[3] House of Blues,[4] and Bottom Lounge[5].
History
[edit]Capital Soiree originated in the western suburbs of Chicago in 2012. Starting out as an unnamed two-piece acoustic act consisting solely of Kourafas and Romero, they soon assumed the name of Community Service shortly after meeting Redjukowski in high school.[2] After settling on a lineup with Romero on bass and vocals, Kourafas on guitar and vocals, and Redjukowski on drums. Kourafas and Romero contributed most of the material that would eventually become their first effort, Steve's Basement, released in November 2012.
The band did not release any new material for three years following the release of Steve's Basement. The band changed their name to Capital Soirée after discovering a rap group with the same name. [2]It would not be until 2015 when the sophomore effort, an EP entitled 2:30 Definitely would be released. This release saw a departure from the musical style of their previous material, reflecting the growing ambitions of the band and the increased presence of managers and producers.[1]The release of this EP culminated with the band's first show at a major Chicago venue, House of Blues.
The years following have seen increased activity from the band, and as their sound has developed they have consistently released a new EP each year. In the time following the release of 2:30 Definitely, the band saw some lineup shifts. Redjuskowski relinquished the role of drummer in favor of playing guitar and contributing the increased presence of keyboards on subsequent releases, and the addition of a live drummer, Griffin Shaw. Their 2016 effort, Next Weekend saw the band working with significantly more autonomy and the album brought the band increased prominence, playing venues like the Metro and the Bottom Lounge, in addition to other local venues in the Chicago metropolitan area.
The early months of 2017 saw the February release of their most recent EP, Take Me Anywhere.[1] This was the band's first entirely independent production, and for the first time each member contributed lead vocals and drums. The EP was released following a headlining show at the Subterranean.[3] A documentary about the making of this EP was produced and documents the writing and recording process.
