Definition
[edit]Instead of utilizing the spectral model, within astrophysics the colors are not of the same interest as they are within traditional physics. The concept of red-blue shift discriminates if a frequency emission happens towards the viewpoint (the emission source moves towards the viewpoint), or if the source is moving away from the viewpoint. Of interest is the behaviour of a frequency emission, if the same physical rules as those for visible light can be applied. Optoelectronic devices like optocouplers operate on light frequency waves, not necessarily within the range of visible light.
Near-visible EMR is used to describe a range of frequencies, around the human-visible frequency band.

[edit]Starcharts (charts of stars in astrophysical sense, see stellar classification) include red, orange, yellow, white, blue (correctly they need to include brown for brown dwarfs as well). The lower frequency border is 1,000 µm, the upper frequency border is 10nm/1nm. See infrared/ultraviolet. The range in which frequencies behave similiar to visible light is smaller than the range defined by these borders. Frequencies outside these borders are not near-visible EMR, but radio-waves respective radiation.

[edit]The range of frequencies above the point of visibility. Near-visible EMR includes both far ultraviolet (towards radiation) and near ultraviolet (towards visible light)
Other identifiers

- light frequency waves and
- light wave frequencies are used.
the latter calling the situation to have a composition of different frequencies together in one occurrence/observation. Near-visible EMR is the scientific correct term, Visible and near-visible EMR a more complete form, used if it is not obvious from the context.
Examples
[edit]- The planet Jupiter emits, among other energetic freqencies, near-visible EMR, it is a reflection of frequencies coming from the sun. The certain color is usually not further analzyed, but a subject of planetology
- The Sun emits visible EMR and near-visible EMR being the primary emitted component. It is also called Solar radiation in common language.
