Early Life
[edit]Taylor is an only child on her mother's side of the family. She grew up in a single parent environment where her mother was forced to single handily provide and take care of her individually. On her father’s side she has 2 brothers and a sister.[1] Before Taylor was officially signed she was a skateboarder and basketball player. The danger that the label saw in these activities was a huge concern which resulted in Taylor making a personal decision to give up her physical hobbies in exchange for the love of her career.[2]
The first time Taylor had ever stepped into a recording studio, she was only seven. She started out singing on the train to make money in order to finance herself. It was then that she had realized that she wanted to pursue music as a career as it was something she slowly stated to enjoy more than just a hobby.[3]
Career
[edit]Taylor is a singer, rapper, model, and choreographer. The Harlem, New York native is a self-made all-around businesswoman who has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry. Taylor’s debut in the spotlight came about when she was featured on MTV‘s “My Super Sweet 16” in 2007.[4]
Her first solo album features production from sonic architects like Jazze Pha, Pharrell, Mad Scientist, Frost, Shondre and Hit Boy. Taylor brings a refreshing young hip sound to her album such as the rumblings of a party-pumping earthquake. The mix of throwback break beats, futuristic boom bap, and melodic renderings is the perfect backdrop for the starlet's musical mayhem. Taylor has yet to release a second album. [5]
When not appearing on runways during Fashion Week Taylor is occupied using her talents for promotional use such as lending her voice to the title track on Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.[6] As an aspiring songwriter, Taylor has already worked with and written records for major artist such as Usher, Chris Brown, and Omarion. She is expected to work alongside Brandy as well in the near future.[7]
In 2011 Taylor Joined alongside rap artist Bow Wow for Tyler Perry’s play turned-film Madea's Big Happy Family (film), the latest instalment in the series which was released on April 22.[8]
Feuds
[edit]During the Summer Jam XX Set, the Harlem born MC ASAP Ferg took shots at Teyana Taylor, who is known as the first lady signed to Kanye West’s GOOD Music label. “Who you know who got big tits – Teyana,” the rapper spit over the microphone during his performance. “Sucked on ‘em when I lived out in Harlem/ Got signed back Pharell and started acting like a prima donna.” The New York annual fest which is popular for its onstage slander is no safe place for female rap artist. It just happened that Teyana was the intended target of the causality as she was the only female MC singled out that evening. For the record, sources announced that later that evening when asked, group member ASAP Rocky denied any type of relation between ASAP Ferg and Teyana Taylor. [9]
