Biography
[edit]James A.F. Stoner is a professor of Management Systems at the Gabelli School of Business Administration of Fordham University, and a holder of Fordham's James A.F. Stoner Chair in Global Quality Leadership. [1]
Dr. Stoner earned his undergraduate BS degree in Engineering Science from Antioch College in 1959. After that he went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he received his master in 1961 and doctoral degrees in MIT School of Industrial Management (now the Sloan School) in 1967. James Stoner is the first one who studied group polarization so-called "risky shift" in his unpublished 1961 master's thesis. Then in his pioneering master's thesis identifying "risky shift" and group polarization, he suggested that individuals made more extreme decisions than did groups, leading to the expectation that groups would make decisions that would conform to the average risk level of its members.
