I have learn new thing about Wikipedia, editing other articles, adding new information , or adding new citation, but more importantly i have learn that Wikipedia is a place where you can find reliable information, but is also a place where you can contribute to add more information and help others. This first time i have only edit grammar and spelling because i'm still trying to find my self conformable with this new information and how to properly use it. I hope to learn new techniques and be able to do more helpful editing.

Wikipedia -Plagiarism and more

Plagiarism Plagiarism Is a form of violation towards authors, and writer by using their own work as if it was your own and without a proper citation, plagiarism has different forms to show itself, by close paraphrasing (changing main words, changing the order of the information but at the end the same as the original) plagiarism can be done by using words and ideas that do not belong to you, and it can be against public resource or a copyrighted.

Close paraphrasing Close paraphrasing is also considered a form of plagiarism, because it involves using the same concepts and same idea as the original information or source where you got the information from, ideas and even words. Not because we change a couple of words it means that it’s not the same, for example, by changing the order of the paragraph, or just emitting some words is also called close paraphrasing. Is better just to summarize and use your own words to avoid any type of plagiarism or close paraphrasing.

Copyright violations Copyright violation occurs when a person use a particular piece of work that is protected under the law, and everything in it is property of an individual, and everything in it should not be use without the permission and acknowledge of the owner of that work. Such as violations are punishable by law, but more importantly I think that people will find out and what could be worse that losing credibility, ethics and professionalism.

I have learn though this assignment how to use a little bit more what Wikipedia has to offer , (the talk) where you are able to make comments on the article, what you like about it or what is lacking of. (Edit This Page) where you can add some information, links, pictures to the current information and also new source citations. (History) in there you can find dates and information on what has been changed in that particular article, and where it came from, contributors and statistics are also provided. (Watch) this tool can be use to add that article to your watch list and later make adjustment and more information or even edit.

Wikipedia articles to edit or create

What I Practiced

[edit]

Mostly what I practice is how to use the sign such as ==, [[]] and more. Everything is still confusing but, I’m learning that there is always something good to edit or add to the current article, one of the articles that I read had not so much information and to me it look more like a summary than an article, but I believe that is a great start, I have also learn how to use more the history tab, than can help you see what other people think that should be change, or perhaps they have all ready changed.

what I read

[edit]

what I’m thinking

[edit]

I believe that to find and article to edit or create, I still need to do more research because I need to feel familiar with the topic that I want to edit, I was thinking that I may be able to edit a article about the career that I’m pursuing , or perhaps propose an article about DACC, because I was not able to find and article about the college that we attend. I’m still working on my decision.

Using Sources in Wikipedia

[edit]

What I learn

[edit]

I have read some useful information on different point of view, for example I have learn that Wikipedia is a great source, where you can find a main idea or maybe if you needs to clarify a point where you didn't know what that meant or you didn't have an idea on what is that about, but when it come to a college paper writhing you need to look for more information and primary sources. I have also gotten an idea about what primary and secondary sources means, but still re-reading the information (kind f confusing). Having a good source means that you have to do some research and check wherever source you want to put as a reference in your paper, but I think more importantly I have learn to have a different perspective, about information and not to let myself believe that just because it has citation it is a credible source but instead to check that the information is accurate.

The following Mat Hoffman Action Sports Park entry is an example that I mostly copied from Oklahoma City. The example is for this course. I added some additional information without references for now.

Mat Hoffman Action Sports Park

[edit]

Oklahoma City has a skate park named after Mat Hoffman . The skate park is now Mat Hoffman Action Sports Park and allows skateboards, bmx bikes, scooters, and roller blades. It was named in a National Geographic Travel guide as one of the 10 best in 2009.[1][2]

Writing ideas and outlines about articles to edit or create

[edit]

Six ideas

[edit]
  • DACC
I have been searching (but may be wrong) and I have not found an article with more information on DACC (sure they have mention it in NMSU article)
  • Radiology Program DACC

I may be thinking on adding some information on the requirement that this specific program has and linked to DACC

  • Programs offered by DACC

like I said before locally we may need more information and easy to access also in Wikipedia

because I like your suggestion on may be adding a little bit more information and supporting new articles is good (little bit difficult I believe but it may be good to give it a try

  • A casino in Anthony NM

previously in other classes we did some research about a possible casino in front of DACC(GAC) but I lose track on what the decision was plus I don’t think that so many people notice that possibility

  • how to help your community

we may have all ready some information but it will not hurt to make emphasis in something = this( still looking for an article that I may help edit)

Most favored today

[edit]

I think that I may be considering the information about the casino, because as I said before, some time ago there was a proposition to introduce to our community a new casino that was supposed to be located across from The Donna Ana Community College here in Anthony, I found some information, but to tell you the truth I have not found out what the decision was ( even tho I think that was not a good thing to the community base in what I read before) Some links

Second most favored today

[edit]

My second choice could be, more information on the radiology program, because it’s going to sound selfish, but personally I was struggling if I should apply and what are the benefits on this, sometimes in the college page the information is more like a summary of the reality, but what I wanted to know was what my possibilities were or if at the end how likely to find a suitable job was?, how many opening such as career has?, and more and those questions are not yet answer but I would like to give it a try. Also help others that may have the same question as me. More importantly all in one article. (Not so much research yet)

Receiving approved/assignment articles to edit or create

[edit]

My six ideas were about my community and about school information, my main idea (the one from the casino) I got the feedback from you, and I have considered that is true that why should I write something that has not been approved or doesn’t exist , I was thinking more like information then an actual fact, my other idea was adding information about the programs offered at DACC but as you suggested I look in different institution and I have found out that they do not offer in Wikipedia such as information, in other words it’s not needed in this particular site. And the other ones are more like filling ideas, I’m kind of lost in this situation and I would like some help in finding a topic.

Some article where I found why is not a good idea to edit or create about DACC programs offered

[edit]

Talk pages

[edit]

I have not research a lot in the talk section I have mainly read articles and what is the information that they provide, I was also looking for articles that needed editing, but I have been somehow confuse because, to tell you the truth I’m scare that the information that I may want to add is not relevant, another reason is that I have actually only accessed to internet due to my work and other things in my life and I’m afraid that the internet information may not be enough. ( I will be working on research in talk pages) --Xaleman87 (talk) 02:08, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Writing recommendations to improve the course LSC 255

[edit]
I think that this course is really well organized and has the proper explanation on any assignment, but one of the think that I found important to suggest is that I think that encouraging edits to article in different languages is a great idea, because some of those articles talk about this country, but they lack of information and sometimes I think we can help to give our opinion, because we live here but also do to do it to improve our knowledge on what they know, what we can learn and what we can offer.
The second suggestion can be that probably make one more assignment or video assignment on how to use talk pages, I know that Wikipedia offers that but personally I just struggle with this, but now I know how to use them, maybe I was the one with the problem understanding this concept, but if there may be someone like me it will be good to have a little bit more information on it.
The third and last will be to add an assignments as a group, to create an article and assign a section to each student, to see what we can create as a group, research can be more easy if we have someone in our class that has the same topic with different section, but may have seen information that we may overlook, and I suggest this because I think that part of creating and editing is to learn to help each other create a greater work. Great class, I have learn so much, I hope this can help a little.--Xaleman87 (talk) 23:46, 7 March 2014 (UTC)
