3D printing is any of various processes used to make a three-dimensional object. It is developed in 1980s and it is widely used in the field of industrial design, architecture, aerospace science and manufacture. Generally speaking, there are 3 main processes to finish a 3D printing product. The first step is modeling, which starts with making a virtual model made in a CAD (Computer Aided Design) file using a 3D modeling program which output from a 3D scanner. 3D scanning is a process of collecting the data of shape and appearance of an object. Based on this data, three-dimensional models of the scanned object can then be precisely produced. The 3D printer could not read these three-dimensional models directly so we must convert these files into the format of STL or OBJ. The next step is printing. And before doing that, we should use some software such as Netfabb or Meshmixer to fix some technical errors occur in the 3D scanning files such as OBJ or STL. Once that's done, the model files need to be converted by certain software which could “slice” the model into a series of thin layers. The final step for us is to choose the appropriate material and printing resolution to finish the printing.
