From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Society for Mormon Philosophy and Theology (SMPT) was formed on March 28, 2003 as a scholarly forum for disciplined study of the scriptures and revealed doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.[1]

The first annual meeting was held at Utah Valley State College on March 19-20, 2004, and the proceedings were published in Discourses in Mormon Theology: Philosophical and Theological Possibilities.[2] A selection of papers from subsequent annual meetings and other contributed articles are currently published in Element: A Journal of Mormon Philosophy and Theology,[3], the Society's semiannual journal.

The Society is governed by an elected Executive Board, administered by an Executive Committee[4] and adheres to the Constitution and Bylaws[5] ratified in February 2004. Membership is open to scholars and students.
