Woodwind Orchestra
[edit]A woodwind orchestra, also called woodwind choir, woodwind ensemble or wind ensemble is a performing ensemble consisting of members of the woodwind family of instruments.
A woodwind orchestra's repertoire includes original woodwind compositions, transcriptions/arrangements of orchestral compositions, light music, and popular tunes.
Although the woodwind orchestra is very similar to a standard woodwind section of the Symphony Orchestra, it is beginning to be recognised by some as an ensemble in its own right through a small but growing repertoire of music for the ensemble.
Instrumentation
[edit]There is no standard instrumentation for the woodwind orchestra; composers will frequently add or omit parts. Commonly the woodwind orchestra will be made up of flutes, oboes, clarinets of differing sizes, saxophones of differing sizes, bassoons and contrabassoon.
