Zenas Adams was a circuit rider in the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Adams was the brother of Methodist circuit rider Ezra Adams, as well as the father of Charlotte Adams, and the uncle Mrs. Thomas Hurlburt.[1]
Adams was born in Ascott, Lower Canada, around 1795.[1][2] He converted to Methodism in 1811.[3][1] He was accepted on trial as a circuit rider by the New England conference in 1814, and assigned to the Newhaven circuit, where he remained in 1815. In 1816 and 1817, he was assigned to the Danville circuit. In 1818, he was assigned to the Standstead and St Francis circuits, alongside Wilder Mack. Membership in the Episcopal church on those circuits increased 124 to 229 people that year. In 1819, he was assigned to the Unity circuit in Vermont. Ill health forced him to stop circuit riding in 1820, and he remained a supernumerary of the church until 1826, when he resumed riding on the Salsbury and Heymouth circuits. He was located in 1829, settling in Esquesling, Upper Canada, where he worked as a local preacher until his death in 1852.[4][5]
