Biology student giving Wikipedia the ole' college try. Passionate about physiology, zoology, and entomology!
Currently working on improving the Wiki page for Melipona, a genus of honey-producing, stingless bees. Currently the article has scattered and somewhat irrelevant information and is severely lacking in in-depth information regarding physiology, behavior, distribution, and their uses as honey-producers in South and Central America. This stub also needs many more sources in order to be considered a good article. By no means will the article be as thorough as the articles for, say, the honey bee, but hopefully my edits will reflect the amount of information that is both available and useful to know about this particular genus of bee.
My draft (and subsequent final article) will include content which I've found is common across the board for other insect genera (particularly bees) - Phylogeny, Taxonomy, Behavior, Habitat, and Description. I'm also including a section on the interactions between this genus of bee and humans, which will include honey cultivation and how pesticide usage affects these guys. My literature review included several articles on particular bee species from this genus and how neonicotinoids are affecting them. Although I won't be half as specific, I'll mention that a lot of research focuses on these stingless bees because of their usage in the agricultural industry.
