On January 6 2012, a suicide bomber killed 26 people in the Damascus neighborhood of Al-Midan. The bombing was the second in two weeks.[2] According to government sources, the bomber detonated his explosives near buses carrying policemen in Midan. Syrian officials claim Al-Qaeda was responsible for the attack.[3] The attacks mark a "dramatic escalation" of violence as Arab League monitors tour the country to investigate the Syrian armies attacks against protesters.[4]
