cleaned up tag

[edit]

is it okay to put a cleaned up tag into an article? there's a Romeo + Juliet article that filled with personal POV, and I just tag it. am i allowed to do that or just the administrator? thanks. HoneyBee 23:13, 1 December 2005 (UTC) Thanks for the advise. Just be bold, right? Btw, someone add my comment in your message - something about Daniel? What is going on? Fotofab

[edit]

I spotted Transwiki:Fotofab during Newpages patrol and moved it straight to Fotofab (with a move summary of "WTF?"). It was only while checking the results of the move that I saw the link from Wikipedia:Transwiki log/Articles moved to here and found out what this "Transwiki:" pseudo-namespace was for. I don't think there was actually any harm done this time, but I'll try to be more careful in the future. Sorry. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 23:45, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

I incorrectly made this post to a non-admin. I believe this should go to your attention. RadioKirk 17:26, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

I blocked them for 24 hours and added {{sharedip}} to their page. Although all the edits are vandalism, it is a sharedip, and there are only a few warnings on the page. Lets see how it goes being temp blocked, maybe that will curb their enthusiasm. Cheers. «»Who?¿?meta 20:50, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
Thank you, and cheers back :) RadioKirk 05:04, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

weird

[edit]

something weird happened in the Red Eye movie article. the pic is very large and i can't change it, and when i checked the history, there aren't any changes made, except some minor changes from myself. what's going on? HoneyBee 22:19, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

I happened to notice this question. This edit to the Infobox Movie template apparently changed what needs to be passed in for the image (should now just be "image = Red_Eye_poster.JPG"). I've looked around a bit, and it seems at least most other movies already supply the image in this form. I'll update the Red Eye article. -- Rick Block (talk) 01:52, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the response Rick. Been a little buzy, hadn't had much chance to get on. Cheers. «»Who?¿?meta 17:41, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Yeah - I noticed you've been a little scarce lately (no problem - I've been trying to keep up with CFD speedies). BTW - this template deal is a bigger problem than I thought. I've been through maybe 200 all of the first 500 references to the {{Infobox movie}} template and have found maybe 15 problem references. I don't know how many references there are altogether (thousands?), but it seems like it's going to take a long time to check them all. Fixing them sometimes involves adding a "image caption" parameter to the template as well. I thought about whipping up a script to fetch all the "what links here" and scan for problem articles, but I'm not sure it's actually worthwhile. If you have any thoughts on this please let me know. -- Rick Block (talk) 04:50, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
OK. I broke down and wrote a little script to fetch all the movie articles. I'm going through them looking for template problems. Should be done in not too long. -- Rick Block (talk) 05:30, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Hey, sorry i didnt have a chance to look yet. Hopefully will be able to get bk online soon. If you can't get it fixed, I will try to get on this weekend and take a look at it. Cheers. «»Who?¿?meta 20:12, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

This person apparently has been warned before about changing Wiki pages to her design "standards". A block may be in order. RadioKirk 02:36, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Changing category names has caused problems for interwiki

[edit]

Hi, back in October, Whobot changed the names of a number of categories from "Airports of Country" to "Airports in Country". This has caused a problem where categories in wikipedias in other languages had interwikilinks to the categories that were changed. Namely, the links no longer work. I have fixed a couple (Airports in Sweeden and Aiprorts in Poland) but this obviously leaves a great many links in other language wikipedias that have broken links. Is there any way that your bot could possibly go through them and fix the broken links? (I'm guessing not since you would probably need permission from the other wikipedias to run your bot there...? Thought it was worth asking) -- Adz 11:52, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

general question on promo photos

[edit]

I ask this in place of an unnecessarily detailed question I had up previously. In general when a contributor finds a photo of a band somewhere online, and the bottom of the photo shows the record label's name, so that it appears to be a promotional photo, do we need to hunt down any permissions for uploading it? I have always done that before, but someone else did not do that in an article I help edit.

A person whose talk page you've spoken on before seems to have found a promo photo on a webpage they listed (which no longer exists on the web but once did) in the photo tag. If a photo plainly displays the record company's name is that enough to determine it to be a promophoto or is there more involved, such as seeking permission from the source record company, photographer or group? It almost seems silly to ask someone if you can have permission to have a promophoto photo up as fair use because "promotional" seems to mean it's intended to be used by media, but anyway I've always thought I needed permission before. I will go try to get that from the source label and add it to the photo tag, if I obtain it, I guess. I won't be asking the band or its management because they were too confused by a query a year or so ago, and the label is simpler to talk to in this case. Emerman 14:29, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Semi-protection

[edit]

Who: you're an editor whom I respect and admire, and I was wondering your opinion about a proposal that's being considered. At Wikipedia:Semi-protection policy, a couple users and myself are attempting to gather consensus about a possible change in editing. So as not to keep the community out of the loop, we've been posting to user talk pages, which seems to have worked. If you can add your thoughts to the talk page, it would be greatly appreciated. We've gone over a few issues, ranging from perception of anti-wiki to time limits, and recycling pagemove code, so you might want to check out #Rehashing to get up to speed. Thanks in advance, Mysekurity(have you seen this?) 22:01, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Hope everything is ok? Enjoy your wikibreak! --Kbdank71 16:06, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Eh.. yea and no.. my mind just ain't right after the move, lot of stuff i need to do, been out of the loop lately so trying to get better associated with my new surroundings.. Thanks. «»Who?¿?meta 11:13, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
I'm really sorry to hear that. If you want to talk about anything, you know how to get ahold of me. I'll be on vacation in Arkansas for the next week, but I get back on the 26th. --Kbdank71 19:04, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

When you return, could you delete all reversions made to this file? We still get the occasional nine-year-old who thinks the pimply faced boy in place of Lindsay Lohan is somehow funny... RadioKirk 17:49, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

done. «»Who?¿?meta 11:13, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Semi-protection

[edit]

hi, thanks for the note, and sorry for the delayed response. I am taking a Wikibreak for awhile, I want to be a part of this, but other things have to be done here. Cheers. «»Who?¿?meta 08:18, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Sure. I hope your Wikibreak goes well, and you come back relaxed and ready :). I'm in complete agreement that this is, nor should be, anywhere close to the top of your importance list, but I just wanted to let you know. Again, enjoy it, and I'll talk to you soon. -Mysekurity(have you seen this?) 00:23, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
