Irina Andreyevna Fedosova 1897

Irina Andreyevna Fedosova (1827 or 1831 – 1899) was a Russian lamenter and folk poet. She is frequently cited as the most famous Russian lamenter of the 19th century.[1]

Life

Irina Fedosova was born in either 1827[2] or 1831[3] to a peasant family in Karelia, Russia.[1] She began working at the age of 6, and began doing vocals at weddings by the age of 12.[2]

Fedosova's poetry was socially conscious and focused on castes and peasants as heroes.
