Jendrik Sigwart better known by the mononym Jendrik (born 27 August 1994 in Hamburg) is a German singer and musical performer who will represent Germany in 2021 Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands with his song "I Don't Feel Hate".[1][2]
Early life and career
[edit]Jendrik Sigwart grew up in Hamburg-Volksdorf and has four siblings. He learned piano and violin as a teenager and studied musicals for four years at the Institute for Music at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. While still a student, he appeared in various musicals, including German productions of My Fair Lady, Hairspray and Peter Pan.[3] Sigwart also writes his own songs published on YouTube. His first original song on YouTube was "Dibdibidi" in 2016.[4] The ukulele is particularly important in his music.[1] He was the Comedian Harmonist in the world premiere of the musical "Berlin, Berlin" in December 2019. In December 2020, he presented three of his songs at a benefit concert for the refugees at Moria refugee camp in Greece after a disastrous fire in the camp.
Sigwart has a boyfriend.[5]
Eurovision
[edit]Jendrik Sigwart always dreamt of representing Germany in Eurovision. After he failed to make it to the 2020 live selection show, he put a humourous video "How to make a Musikvideo" on TikTok and Instagram to one of his songs in a bid for a brand new try for Eurovision 2021. As the video gained attention and following, the Hamburg radio and television broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) took notice and eventually nominated him as a candidate.[4] On February 6, 2021 it was announced that he had been selected internally to represent Germany at Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam bypassing the German representative to the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 Ben Dolic.
The selected song that Jendrik has wrote himself is "I Don't Feel Hate". It was released on February 25, 2021. A music video was also released.[6] The song was produced by Christoph Oswald.[7]
