Biography

[edit]

[edit]

Solomon Asumadu Mensah was born in Kumasi, Ghana on 13th September 1993 into a royal family. Short time after his birth his mother moved to Mamponteng in the Kwabre East District where he was raised for seven years. When he was 9 years old, his parents divorced and he moved to greater Accra to live in a town called Abofu with relative, which according to Young So is "probably one of the most wanting in quality areas in the Achimota." He had his basic school there at Abofu. Young So did well in school and at age 17 he was offered an opportunity to pursue Senior High through a program called General Arts. Regardless of his conduct, he struggled with extreme challenges. He began struggling at school due to his problems with his personal life, and even contemplated streetwise and as a result he came back to Kumasi to join his family. At the age of 19 to 20, Young So met a friend called Mr Herry, a sound producer and a song recording artiste in Kumasi who introduced him to Hip Hop.[5]

Musical Career

[edit]

Why He Choose To Rap

[edit]

Early 2010, while Young So was still schooling he decided to carry out a career in music. When his senior brother Isaac A Mensah asked why he selected music, Solomon replied: "Music is a rhythm and poetry and I can see God has given me a gift of writing poems therefore I had to explore it, it's my talent, I have been writing stories for the Drama Group in from Junior High School, I once became the leader of Debate and Drama group when I was in Senior Senior High School as a result of story writing. Also, Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world because, when music hits you, you feel no pain. Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything. Therefore I want promoting world peace and how to challenge obstacles through music. Finally he said to his brother "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart".

Later 2011: Beginning of His Career

[edit]

Young So met his mentor Abusuapanin Chikicherrkerr, a contestant of the MTN Hit maker maiden edition at a show hosted in Kumasi. Although Young So was not a rapper but at that time but right after the main artiste’s performance, there was a freestyle completion that Young So participated in and after the segment he was crowned as the best freestyler for that event. From there, he created a relationship with Chikicherrkerr as he used to accompany him to studio. According to Young So, he gained a lot from Chikicherrkerr, Chiki used to write lyrics for him to rehearse and he will always say it anywhere he will go. After Young So got the basis of writing lyrics and rapping over instrumentals from Chikicherrkerr, he then went back to Mr Herry for rap tips as he was closer to him. Mr Herry who was then called ‘Wyndows’ brought him a large number of beat CDs to write lyrics over. In 2012, Young So was going by the name Kwadwo Tupac because his style of delivery on instrumental mistook him for the legend Tupac Shakur. His way of blending Hip-hop with Hip life including his flow and lyrics depict a true trait of a future star. He released an unofficial mixtape album titled Mad Tape which he featured Chikicherrkerr and Wyndows although it didn’t reach a wider audience. Later on, Young So opened for Dr Slim, Chiki Gh, Dobble Gh, Stonebwoy, Yaa Pono and Bigg Bone at a Show in University of Education Winneba - Ghana (Kumasi Campus). Soon after, he obtain the name Young So, which is the science of reasoning, to broaden his horizons.

YSM was formed with the aim of promoting World Peace through music and eventually caught the interest of Genesis, Dawn ODG, Klenzy Ghanny, DJ Raj, Dj Bush K and King Tozua. His Celebrity Crush

[edit]

Young So had a crush on Ghanaian female celebrity called Ahuofe Patri Said. According to Dawn ODG, he really loves it when People find love and try to do everything possible to keep it real. Well I must confess I am a true fan of the “Boys Kasa” Series which I know most people love it. I read this story ‘Young So composes a song for Ahoufe Patri’ online. I listened very close to the lyrics of the song and it was a very nice piece but I was like “huh” more than Sarkodie could scream his huh. I thought Kalybos is the only boss over Ahuofe Patri but here comes another boss Young So, who is also claiming that he really loves Ahoufe Patri. I know Ahuofe Patri has heard several proposals but Young So has come in different way and going to an extent composing a song for Patricia. But one thing that boggles my mind is, will it be that easy for Young So because we know Kalybos is doing all he can to make Ahuofe Patri his’ in their comedy series but in real life we can’t confirm. Though, a flower cannot blossom without sunshine, and man cannot live without love but can Young So win Ahuofe Patri?
