Helophilus antipodus (Schiner, 1868) are a specie of hoverflies observed throughout New Zealand . It belongs Helophilus.

Taxonomy

His species was first described by Schiner under the name Helophilus antipodus in 1868. In 1901, Hutton named this species as Helophilus vincinus. In 1909, Lamb found this species named Helophilus interruptus. In 1921, Miller found these three specieses are the same species and named uniformly as Helophilus antipodus.[2][3]

Description

Female

No real tubercle; the whole face is formed of a rounded swelling.the ground-colour yellow-grey, with 3 broad black strips, the centre one having media grey line note extending to the ends of the black one. Frint tibiae yellow, with a black ring at the end. Hind femura all balack. Hind tibiar blacj, with broad yellow central band. Wing-viens black, and slightly infusecate. Discal cross-vien ablique, but onl;y bent where it is crossed bty the vena spuria. Well-marked black stigma.[4]
