[edit]1DegreeBio is an independent resource for life scientists to share reviews on products and service providers. The site provides a simple way to find the best products and services and reduce the guesswork that costs scientists worldwide valuable time and resources. Started in July 2010 [1] with their antibody portal, 1DegreeBio has rapidly grown to a community of over 100,000 scientists worldwide and has expanded its platform to include a growing list of biological reagents, as well as custom research service providers. The aim of 1DegreeBio is to create a centralized hub which brings together product information, publications, validations, and third party unbiased product reviews from scientists worldwide.

Specialized Portals
[edit]In June 2012, 1DegreeBio announced the release of its Epigenetics sub-portal [2] , a niche community with content focused only of Epigenetics related research targets. In July 2012, their second portal focused on Stem Cells was launched. [3]
Founders
[edit]1DegreeBio was founded in 2009 by Alex Hodgson [4][5], Olga Volkova and Ron Yeung as a way to improve the way products were being sourced in Life Science and to bridge the growing divide between suppliers and bench researchers. The name “1DegreeBio” means “put scientists one degree away from top quality reagents and their suppliers”.
Advisory Boards
[edit]To ensure that 1DegreeBio upholds the highest scientific standards, a group of business and scientific advisors has been brought together to work closely with 1DegreeBio in the ongoing development of the company. On the Scientific Advisory Board resides Dr. Lori Frappier (University of Toronto), Dr. Aled Edwards (University of Toronto/Structural Genomics Consortium), Dr. Brian Marsden (University of Oxford) and Dr. Sachdev Sidhu (Ontario Insitute of Cancer Research/University of Toronto). 1DegreeBio's Board of Directors includes Philip Armstrong (CEO of Jovian Capital), Steven Scott (Head of Digital Tools, Macmillan Digital Science Ltd) and Dr. Aled Edwards (University of Toronto).
