Here are some strange compare and contrasts I sometimes like:
Template Madness!
[edit]How do templates change over the years/months/whatever? Look:
You can see that {{subst:vfd}} looks the same as this revision in both (hence using subst there even then), yet it has seen many dramatic revisions to today's design, and was even renamed to {{afd}} (since VfD is now AfD to spin MfD off from VfD), but still reccomends the use of subst to this day. The transcluded templates, however, have had visible changes even here. For example, {{cleanup}} has been modified many times in the last year, going from saying it needs cleanup to comply with higher standards of quality (which it did for a very long time, in many wordings) to a version announcing that it is to meet our quality standards (same thing, but not the wording of the past.). {{POV check}} has seen less dramatic changes between the time of the two shots, flipping from saying "there is discussion, but not really a specific dispute" to just saying there is nomination discussion on talk. Finally, {{cleanup-importance}} has also seen many revisions after its beginnings (which was still the revision when the left shot was taken) less than a month before the left shot, being trimmed down and changing its colors to {{cleanup}}'s blue from the green shown at left before receiving the format style, bold sentence and all, of {{cleanup}} in January 2006 ({{cleanup}} adopted it after several other tries [mostly from {{cleanup-date}}] in December 2005).
Fine print: I did not take the February shot, -- I hadn't even heard of Wikipedia then -- but I did take the newer one.
That's an example of How The Templates Of Wikipedia® Are As Dynamic As The Articles™! Hopefully this shows how the evolution of templates can help the project, since behind articles they are my second-most favorite type of pages on Wikipedia (especially image tags and notice templates).
There are currently no other compare and contrasts at this time. This being a wiki, however, this can change. Remain cool even as it gets hot, stay tuned, and be careful!
