Autism and Demographics
[edit]User:Guillom's essay
[edit]Article based on Autistic man sacked
[edit]- Editors with some autism spectrum traits may have additional UX issues(Caveat "If you know a person with autism, you know one person with autism."). This table from here is a summary, but more details Personalisation/Customisation is essential.[1] https://www.researchgate.net/publication/276495184_User_Interface_for_People_with_Autism_Spectrum_Disorders [2] [3]
- Reluctance to change, often due to a personal cost/benefit/risk calculation.
- Function over form, using Linux an example "The command line trades away discoverability, in exchange for efficiency and flexibility" [4], BUT people become power users because of the discoverability (So for instance, all the js we add as menus, would highly interest some potential editors if it was viewable to all, and greyed out), but WMF must cope with Power users/Editors and minimalists/readers [5] essay
Charity
[edit]Support I have been using it and I like it. It's a big change so i expect bugs. It seems to crash on Edge occassionally. On Chrome, editor menus page. more, tw don't play well together (can't open more). I wonder if fundraising realises that it might decrease down donations over the long term. Our brand is our site LOOKS like it is shabby, old fashioned, designed by ASD/Nerds/Honest clever people (or in the oft repeated words of the CEO "humble" = poor = needy = give us money because we can't find our car keys? But they haven't much choice as readers are declining. Possibly asking for a donation that is 1/3 of a days wage in India, and then bring up a shame type banner if they don't, might be an issue? Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 12:31 am, 3 October 2022, Monday (11 days ago) (UTC+11)
- @Mr. C.C. "now Not saying Wikipedia would do that, " It's basically what WMF do now with the banner ads. if you don't click xhttps://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:EN_(AU)_Wikipedia_Banner_fundraising_24th_September_2022_01.png
- then when you scroll down you get another guilt banner that takes up 1/2 the screen.
- And they ask for the same amount in India - but it's equivalent to a third of the median wage everywhere, when its a third of a days wagehttps://wikimediafoundation.org/news/2020/08/05/fundraising-campaign-in-india/
- (The reason it is in English is that WMF funds found people gave more - The median donation is I think $14, so the end result is that we make the vast majority feel bad (guilt plus reminder of their poverty) so the Middle Class will give more, Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 3:58 pm, Today (UTC+11)

The WMF process baffles me
[edit]Communication (no quarterly AMAs/streaming video chats, monthly report),
- Strategic planning (No long term roadmap >1 year, community and tech requests being called a 'wishlist'),
- People (10 year attracted developers,
- 5 ! separate IT departments), and
- Prioritisation ( Fundraising seems to be number one https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/wmde-fundraising-tech/the community being asked to create 'wishlists' rather than plans,....)
The 5 departments breaks ([separation of duties] and organisation silos
"Gleeson and Rozo suggest that a silo mindset "does not appear accidentally... more often than not, silos are the result of a conflicted leadership team. Creating a "unified leadership team" is seen as a key remedy which will "encourage trust, create empowerment, and break managers out of their 'my department' mentality and into the 'our organization' mentality"

Citations
- Reading references is enjoyable
- No curated reference (NPP reputation tools) search engine similar to the film project's. Ability to exclude self published, google books without preview, and check for alternate names listed on article WP names only on google integration with WP library, check alternate name check)
- No AI to aid selection of articles - relative closedness of multiple search terms
- JSTOR is mentioned in template for cites is restricted to 500 edits, so excludes new users that know citations
- Time intensive per article
- Google Books. Google books cite is not context sensitive (so manual entry of chapter name, page, chapter author, cannot look up book reference numbers for "citing:) No option for WP cite style. use of Google books API to provide snippets, google site is missing data references )
- high friction for copying quotes from no copy pages - no image ocr to text tool, or special approval from Authors' Guild & Google
- Citation process is not mistake proof (Could it auto-choose reference type, google books_
- Not mistake proof, high friction (low chance of flow state), Enjoyable finding their references, citing google books is tricky (finding chapter, page,)
- No wp format cite option),
- Belief that tagging/categorisation/templating encourages new editors and effort on STUBs, Instead it means additional work to remove - let the editor judge what has to be done
- Fear that fixing stubs will create extra work
