These instructions might not be comprehensive but hopefully they are comprehensible.

General

[edit]

Once you have installed the Firefox extension, there should be a submenu off of the main Tools menu, called "WagTools". From there you can access the WagTools of your choice.

Project tagging

[edit]
  1. In the category text box, type in a category. Note that the namespace (ie. the string "Category:") is already assumed, so you only need to type the name of the category itself (so for Category:Hampshire, type "Hampshire"). Note that category names are case sensitive.
  2. In the template box, type in the name of your WikProject template; do NOT include the curly brackets. WagTools is designed to work with templates based on Template:WPBannerMeta or of similar construction.
  3. Click "Make list". The first ten items in your chosen category will be found and their talk pages listed in the box on the left of the WagTools window. If the category contains more than ten items, WagTools will automatically place the 11th item in the "continue from" text box. Clicking "Make list" again will add the next ten items to the list and update the "continue from" box accordingly.
  4. Click on an item in the list (any will do but I recommend choosing the first item!). WagTools will scan the talk page for your project template; if it finds the project template it will remove the item from the list and move on to the next item. Otherwise it will load the talk page and to place your template on it. Always check that you're happy with the positioning of the template before saving - sometimes WagTools does get it wrong!
  5. To add the template and move to the next item, click the "Save" button; to ignore this item and move on to the next, click on "Skip".
  6. The "Clear list" button does what it says on the tin.

Typo fixing

[edit]
  1. On loading, the tool will automatically load WP:AWB/Typos and a locally stored version of WP:LCM. The tool then picks commonly misspelled words at random from the latter, and searches the Wikipedia mainspace for them. The resulting articles will appear in the listbox.
  2. Once the listbox has an article listed in it, click on the article. WagTools will then apply the RegExTypoFix rules from WP:AWB/Typos to the article. If no corrections are made, the article will be automatically skipped. If there are corrections suggested, WagTools will load the "show changes" view.
  3. Review the suggested changes - if you're happy with them, click the "Save" button at the top of the screen. Otherwise, either click on the "Skip" button (to skip the article altogether) or edit the article as required before hitting "Save".

Problems/Limitations

[edit]
  1. For the current version to work, WikEd must be deactivated.
