Krailastan Air Force

[edit]

due to sanctions imposed on Krailastan by the United States (in effect since 1972) and the United Nations (in effect since 2008, recently lifted in 2020), Krailastan's air force is vastly behind other nations in terms of technical aspects. However recent times have seen the lifting of UN sanctions with nations such as Russia and China now announcing strategic, military and economic cooperation with Krailastan (although it has been alleged for decades that Russian goverment has been covertly supplying Krailastan's military with spares and other supplies). This new found prosperity has seen Krailastan's ageing air force modernise slightly, with obsolete aircraft such as the Shenyang F-5, Shenyang J-6, Il-28 (although 3 remain in service with the Navy) and Antonov An-2, being retired from frontline duty and aircraft such as the Su-25 and MiG-29 undergoing a full modernisation bringing them into the 21st century. However the brunt of the KAF's fighting force remains with the elderly Northrop F-5 and MiG-21, which are in desperate need of a cost-effective replacement. A handful of elderly F-4 Phantom IIs remain in service however like the rest of Krailastan's American supplied aircraft they are hampered by spare parts shortages and are to be replaced by newer more capable fighters. Krailastan's bomber capability is also in dire straights, with only but 4 of the 9 F-111s being in an airworthy condition. The KAF is seeking a new AWACS platform to replace the elderly E-2 Hawkeyes, however until a replacement is found the Hawkeyes will soldier on. The KAF is also in the midst of modernising its transport fleet, with the KAF seeking to replace its Aeritalia G.222s, Fokker F.27s and Short Skyvans with Antonov An-140s and PZL M28 Skytrucks. The Krailastan Air Force is also the only air arm in the world to still operate the Douglas C-47, although these aircraft will never see frontline duty and mainly operate civilian services (such as air ambulance duties, supply logistics and survey work) relieving the more capable C-130s and Aeritalia G.222s to perform solely military activities, the C-47s will be replaced in the near future by PZL M28 Skytrucks. The KAF primarily relies on the Nanchang CJ-6 to train its pilots, with the Aero L-39s now functioning primarily as attack aircraft to bolster the KAFs combat force, Hongdu JL-8s now function as the primary jet trainer.

The KAF's current capabilities are constrained by
