About me

[edit]

Greetings and welcome to my biography. I enjoy reading both fiction and non-fiction. My favorite book series is Redwall written by the author Brian Jacques. Other authors I enjoy reading are: Steve Berry, Tom Clancy, C.S. Lewis, and John Grisham. Some other things I like to do are walking, swimming, working out, camping, and hiking. Walking is one of my favorite activities and studies have shown that it helps support a healthy immune system[1]. I have worked in the aerospace industry for the last 15 years as an assembler/mechanic at two major airplane companies. I grew up and live in the pacific northwest.

My Wikipedia interests

[edit]

With my time on Wikipedia I hope to explore mostly STEM topics. However I will probably delve into some other things such as language, authors I enjoy, and animals.

Article Evaluation

[edit]

Growing up one of my favorite cartoons to watch was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This is where I began my search. Seeing the staff link (the weapon of choice for Donatello) I decided I would like to know more about this weapon. Upon clicking this link I found another link for  bōjutsu. “I visited the  bōjutsu article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: structure/completeness, citations, and voice."

Structure and Completeness

[edit]

Having read through the very brief four paragraphs of this article (one of which is only a sentence long) and seeing that it contains only three references, I would hardly say this page is complete. This page lacks headers and subheadings as well as a clearly defined flow of information.

Citations and references

[edit]

Of the three references in the reference section, the beginning of the third link “weapons” does not work. There is also a template message at the top of the page stating “This article needs additional citations for verification.” These two facts coupled with the opinions of the author being presented, demonstrate a lack of time and effort put into making this page a good resource.

Voice

[edit]

Upon review of the first and second references both of which led to the same website, it is clear to me that the page has some biases. The last sentence of the article has no supporting information and can be summarized as an opinion of the author. There are also a few other sentences containing little more than opinion related content.

Conclusion

[edit]

For this page to be more useful to the general public and aid in the sharing of good information, it needs to have more citations, less opinion based verbiage, and a clear flow of information. Having a large see also section gives the impression that this page is meant only as a “splash” page for link-ability.
