User:Visctrix
Etymology
[edit]visc from viscera or visceral (Latin) - relating to feelings, and affecting the internal organs
-trix is a deliberate misunderstanding of the Latin suffix.
The name was created at the time of the first Matrix film, and of course matrix is Latin for womb.
A visctrix is thus a space of creation of bodily affects that cannot be put properly into our usual words or names.
Biog
[edit]Currently based in Wakefield, UK, I'm employed to support a network of local independent advocacy organisations. This is all about supporting and developing good practice in supporting communicating by a wide variety of people with different special needs. Previously I helped to start a charity doing independent advocacy work with refugees, also in Wakefield, and a few years ago I set up an inner city environmental charity involving local people in the creative reclamation of disused space in part of Leeds.
My community focus is inseparable from the fact that I am also a philosopher after people like Foucault, Deleuze & Guattari, Bataille, Nietzsche and Spinoza. My main interest is in ethics which I understand as 'how we live', in contrast to systems of morality based on moral laws: 'how you should live'. I don't believe in theory however, and I live in a way that I can develop my ethics through learning, practicing and acting in the community (plus a bit of dancing now and then).
Work in progress
[edit]I wrote a page on independent advocacy which was deleted. The page is preserved here for continued editing and improvement.
