Appearance
Crime during The Blitz ranged from opportunist looting to more sophisticated black markets.[1]
After the declaration of war in 1939 prisoners with less than three months of their sentence left to serve were released along with young people held in borstals who had completed at least six months.[1]
The British police force had become severely weakened by the number of young men enlisted into the army.[1]
